    Cobbled together

The cool thing about arriving in a new place at night is that when you wake up you get to see it in a whole new light. This Mediterranean fishing port on the Istrian coast is even more charming by day. After a much needed leisurely start to the day we wandered down the polished cobbled stone streets in search of bikes. For 50 kuna (about 10 New Zealand dollars) each you can hire a bike for 5 hours. So that's what we did. The Istrian peninsula ...

... point from Italy. So we bid farewell to ham products three times a day as our slow ferry lived up to its billing with a chug out into the Adriatic Sea. The town of Rovinj was alive and buzzing when we arrived at 9.30pm. A local group was singing very loudly on a stage by the water. People were drinking, dinning and wandering the streets. The locals were friendly and everyone seemed to be having a good time. I think we are going to like it ...

Checked out of our Holiday Hotel early to return the rental car and caught a cab back into Pula. Word of warning, the buses from the Pula airport are not very frequent and appear to arrive after major flights land. That's not when we were there & we didn't want to wait.

We arrived at the Riviera before check in time, but they did allow us to leave our bags (although it seemed a less secure storage system than previously ...

... downstairs. THIS is what I came for. Oh my goodness, what a wealth of mosaic art.

Feeling totally satisfied, we drive away to our next adventure. Craig has read about Hum, the smallest town in the world and for some reason, that is our next destination. We choose to avoid the main road and meander for miles (or should I say kilometers) through the tiniest, yet well maintained, back roads. At times it feels like we are on someone's driveway, but ...

Inland Istria & Down the coast

... ana .... Camping here is NOT what we expected. The camp ground held probably 7000 people... Campers and motorhomes ( fiat, Renault Volvo .. No fords here) there are giant swimming pools, supermarkets, stores and restaurant....if you want a tent spot they are almost all pre-pitched "tents" that are maybe 200 sq feet with stoves and mini fridges in them... We felt like idiots with our our little pack tent no chairs and a car.....so we left in a hurry. ...
