... we tried to keep a low profile though the atmosphere was more alien than overtly hostile.
Some of the wares though were certainly hostile, from war jackets, gas-masks, guns and knifes and,most troublingly given what we had heard of the occupation, Nazi medals and flags. I wondered how the traders had found this stuff and what the elder members had experienced, or done, in the war. it was a question to which I did not want an answer.

Riga in the Cloud
My first task of the day was to venture forth and find the shop in Riga that sold charts, as our on-board chart library more or less stops at Latvia. I have tried in every major location so far to find charts for Estonia to no avail, but have assumed that Latvian chart shops would hold charts of their next door neighbour's coast in stock.

Entering The East
... roads put you off, the main roads at great, I am just choosing to get off the beaten track. The problem is that all these countries have very few people living in them compared to the UK so they don't have much money to spend on road and hence only the most important roads are paved. It just hard for me as they are all marked the same on my maps so its a lucky dip as to what condition the next road will be in. ... het een mooie kerk zou zijn, maar helaas; een SEB (een Balkan-bank). We lopen weer terug richting het centraal station en vinden een sushi-bar voor de high-society hier. Best keurige Letten, die hier hun rauwe vis naar binnen ratzen (werken). Menu Marc; Tomatensoep met ei en kip, eend in ketjap-sate-saus met gebakken noodles, pepertjes en kip.
