Day 28: May 24

... getting wet. My camera is waterproof and perfect for taking pictures in this weather. I am anxious that I won't see everything and begin running on the wooded trail at a good pace and a huge smile on my face. I have my backpack and gear tightly strapped, hoping over logs and jumping streams, stopping every short while to snap pictures of amazing scenery. I think about how long I have looked at this place on the map and wondered what it is like. I stop and sit on a tree stump and ...

... island. For this we took a bus to the island stopping off at various viewpoints such as the effects of `beavers`on the landscape and the famous flag trees that lean and have all their branches in one direction because of how exposed to wind they are. When we arrived at penguin island we stepped off our puney little boat and wandered amongst hundreds and hundreds of penguins and smiled smuggy, high fived the penguins, hugged them, joked ...

The End of the World...

... bus driver told us we had to walk 3 hours to the place where we would be picked up. It was actually a lovely walk although the scenery didn´t quite meet Torres Del Paine standards but I´m glad I got to see it and we actually all enjoyed the walk although half of it was spent with me and Anna giggling hysterically for no apparent reason, which I think may have been a side effect of the green beer... The next day we discovered that the flight we had booked out of ...

Day 10. Ushuaia National Park

We were all up early on our last morning aborad the Fram. It was very sad having to leave, but then, all good things must come to an end. We left the ship at around 08.30 and joined the coach to take us to Ushuaia National Park. The park was created by the Argentine government in 1960 to protect the southernmost sub-Antarctic forests. Tierra del Fuego National Park is the ...

... on a high note. I´ve had some brilliant experiences and met some great people. I´m heading into Brazil to Rio de Janiero today for Carnaval, time to party! I got fairly giddy when I picked up my bus ticket on Sunday. I´ve been told to keep my wits about me and which areas I should avoid, but to be honest I think my biggest problem is going to be how to maintain foxiness in this heat! But if that´s my biggest problem, I think life is pretty good! See you in Rio!

its the end of the world as we know it

¨the end of the world¨... sounds pretty eerie, eh? well, it was a lot less eerie and a lot more awe inspiring. Ushuaia is considered the most southern city in the world. it is located right along the beagle channel a the very southern tip of Argentina. in fact, it is the embarkation point for most tourist visits to Antarctica. and for a meesly $7000 you can get a last minute special on a 12 day cruise to antarctica. if you book ahead, it ...

... the town briefly before heading out on a catamaran trip through the Beagle Channel to see some of the Patagonian peaks of Tierra del Fuego and the wonderful wildlife that selects this extreme local as home. We saw many fur seals, cormorants and a colony of several hundred Magellanic penguins. We even caught a glimps of another whale. It was an exhilarating day. We struck up a friendship with a couple from Slovenia ...

Tierra del Fuego National Park Excursion

Tierra del Fuego National Park Excursion - Der Nationalpark wurde 1960 gegründet. Geographisch liegt der Park südwestlich der Provinz "Tierra del Fuego" an der chilenischen Grenze.
