... and behold I find a CHRISTMAS shop!!!!!! WHY oh why do I find these things when they are shut and I cannot even go back tomorrow as we have to get to the boat. I am shattered. They have some gorgeous baubles with hand painted Venetian scenes. Hopefully they have an on line shop.
Another amazing day. I love this place so much it is going to be sad to leave tomorrow. My Italian is improving each day. I'm loving it.
... calamari and vegetables were sort of tempura style, very lightly fried so each vegetable and the calamari retained their own flavour. Served with lemon, this dish was just magical. So good, in fact, that P ordered a second plate and we indulged some more!
I hope the pictures sort of give you an idea of how good these dishes were. They were served with the trattoria's homemade rolls so that not one drop of the sauce was wasted...wonderful.

Welcome to the next chapter of the blog,
Yesterday we started the day by leaving Trieste in the rain and finding our way out of the city (which proved more difficult than we thought) and eventually found the freeway to Venice. The weather was quite cool and wet and we were hoping it would change once we arrived in Venice.
We we had to drop the van off at Mestre, where we said our goodbyes. We no longer are driving ...
... the church which you’re only allowed into for 15 minutes and no photos allowed – quite special. We enjoyed wandering the beautiful city, eating pizza and gelato and soaking up the sun on a €2 canal crossing on a gondola – just so we could at least experience it without breaking the bank. We were welcomed back to the Van-essa with a high of 44.2 degrees recorded on the temperature ...
... of the day free, so my friends and I decided to take an hour taxi boat ride to Lido, a small little town adjacent to Venice and walk along the beach. That night we went out again, and this time we were able to get home without a problem, but we found out the next morning at breakfast that one of our friends in the architecture group walked into the canal by accident and was chest deep in gross canal water. Friday morning, we took a quick train ride to Bologna.
