Early Monday morning we set off for our first adventure on the Shinkansen (the Japanese bullet train). Less than 2 hours later we arrived in Sendai (Northern Japan). Her friend's shop was near the water but had not been flooded in previous tsunamis. When the first warning was broadcast, the friend thought her shop would again not be affected. A true highlight of any japanese experience is Zao Onsen, a ski resort town about 45 minutes East of Yamagata.
Came here a bit by chance and was very lucky indeed. This town is so charming, lots of little lodges and restaurants, it's pretty, clean and surrounded by mountains, ski slopes and lakes.
