Finishing our short history lesson, we got onto an express ferry which went straight into the main town, Como.     If only our friend on the phone from yesterday could have seen us last night. Arriving late into Milan, we found ourselves some back to back park benches in a triangular shaped park not far from the railway station. Salvaging some cardboard from a nearby fruit shop, we fashioned ourselves a thin mattress and slept under the stars, Wendy and I taking shifts to watch our packs as the kids slept.     ... to the Forum and Colosseum where Bea's Classics knowledge came into its own (she turned out to be a particularly good (and cheap) tour guide). On our way across town, there was just time for a couple of pictures of Monumento Vittorio and a swift lasagne. Then onto Pantheon, Trevi Fountain (under scaffolding), walk along the river to Castel Sant'Angelo and then onto Vatican City.     ... hadn't realised when we stopped in Bellinzona last night that it is a Unesco World Heritage listed site, as it has 3 magnificent castles built in the 13th, 14th & 15th centuries and surrounded by a high city wall, and then surprisingly the weekend was also Unesco 'open house' weekend, so all buildings were open and free to the public.
