Going home or so we thought

Today we packed our bags and headed off to the airport. We got to the airport with plenty of time to spare. We checked in, got through security.... after they closely inspected Matt PSP (Playstation Portable games - little disks), finally working out that they were games once seeing the pictures on them. We went through all the different sections and got our passports stamped and took a seat, all ready to board. Unfortunately time passed and no plane... An announcement in German ...

Berlin, my feet hurt.

After another good breaky at the hotel, we cruised into the city again and went on a boat ride around the Spree River (kind of nice, but too touristy). Next, we went to see if we could buy cheap tickets for a really popular performance called The Blue Man Group, but with no success. We decided we might go shopping and buy some better shoes, when we arrived at the central shopping area, we realised soon how much we didnt want to be around the stress of consummerism and thousands of ...

... find. At about 1 we hit up a bar nearby that played olde style music, like 50s, 60s ish style. Spent the rest of the night there dancing, drinking and talking. Very nice and great people. I got home at 6am and today just packing packing packing. All in all exchange has been good. I´ve met some of the most awesome and definetly interesting people and I think my german is much better now. I´ve seen some exIHers and old friends as well as family and my exchange family. I ...

Driving in Germany

... I am a better German driver because of it. I am not defensively afraid of everyone else on the road because, I now own it. I have been getting "the finger" less and less and driving is more enjoyable. And then I had my epiphany. Someone parked his car in front of my building. These park spots were "resident only" and he didn't have a pass. He also took up two spaces in a crowded area. Even worse, all of the other spots on my short street were taken. I ...

The Ministry of Ministries - Only in Berlin!

... what did a Ministry of Ministries do, and why does Orwell's 1984 now seem so much more real? We also heard some interesting escape stories. One was a guy who worked in the Ministry of Ministries. He noticed that the Ministry was very close to a section of the wall (around 20 metres), so one night, he locked himself, his wife, and his son in the building, and in the wee hours ...

Berlin, Ready Set Go

... Teirgarden is where the Berliners go to sunbath.....NUDE. It was primarily middle aged men, some women, definetly an experience. I have this one guys butt and tattoo stuck in my head every time I even think about that place. So I kept strolling on to see some more. Victory Column, built to commemorate the Prussian defeat in 1870. The golden angel on top was made famous by a U2 video, for all you music fans. The location of this was actually changed by Hitler ...

All the way to Berlin in one day!

... you notice the facades of the stone structures you can find a lot of visible bullet holes from machine gun fire. Some structures have histories of the roofs caving in from bombings, there's a church where the steple was broke in two and caved in partially and they have kept it that way. But that's on tommorrow sight seeing extravaganza.

Berlin, Die Zwei

... border. The most impressive were that of two families who built a hot air baloon and sailed it at 50km/hr across the border under cover of night; a young dude who built a minisub to pull him 15 km into the Baltic Sea to get to an ocean liner going to Denmark (the device later lead to several international patents and a commercial device); and a guy who hid his wife between two attached suitcases, with a hole cut to connect them lengthwise. By that time we ...
