... sandwich was actually quite delicious. It was a great snack to hold us off for the brewery.

We had to meet up with everyone at the convention center by 3:15 to catch the bus. We had a unique opportunity to see some of the products Jeanne's company produces as well as some of the things their counterpart company sells. The main, and really only reason for our visit to Pilsen (or Plzen) was … you guessed it …. for beer!!! Apart from the beer, Pilsen has a nice old town, and is the European Capital of Culture for 2015. It is also on the Lonely Planet’s top 10 places to visit in Europe for 2014, so it has to
have something going for it!!!

There is a nice main square (Republic Square) which has the obligatory big old church, ...

Had a wander round that for a while, they have the Russian equivalent of Concorde there, its called "Condordski" very little difference, rumour has it the Russians "obtained" the plans for Concorde and built their own....probably got them from a gay public schoolboy....

... Little did we know he had a few special rooms for us to see. One was the “black kitchen”. So named because it was covered in soot from cooking over the hot flames in the room.


We were grateful for his time and expertise but even more impressed with his kind demeanor and easy smile. He was a gracious and accomplished man and one of the many fine rotarians that we can be happy to know during this GSE.

After we sampled our free Pilsner Urqell that came with the museum ticket, we walked over to the main square to climb the tower of St. Bartholomew's Cathedral. While a decent ways up, the skyline of Plzen isn't all that exciting. Plzen in general wasn't all that exciting to us, it has some nice areas but feels a bit run down outside of the ...
