The city I am in now, is the 5th largest one in Russia, with 1.25 million people. It is along the river Wolga, my first impression: very beautiful.
Had not a chance yet to make pic at daylight, looks nice at night too.

... except for the nice cafe downstairs. Upstairs the hostel was clean and comfortable. The proprietor Anton was a cool guy with a sweet Russian mullet. He showed us around the place and we quickly settled in. The "unique" part of this hostel was the shower in the kitchen and single toilet. Soon I met the babushka that was apparently living there temporarily, she was crazy. She kept trying to speak to me in Russia, not quite understanding ...

... have had the salad...but then my bread board came out to go with the soup and wow! To go with a single bread roll, I was given roasted garlic, spring onion, red onion, sour cream and the star of the show - little pieces of cured pork fat. Ok - maybe I did make a good choice! The soup was warm and comforting, as a good soup should be and the bread with the various accompaniments was fantastic. A good start to the meal. For main course, Kim had chosen dumplings ...

... rivers. The Kremlin was built in the 16th century but quite a bit of it has had to be reconstructed. For 120 roubles I was able to walk along the top of the walls which gave fantastic views of the city and the Volga river. After walking about 2/3 of the walls, I came back down by the main entrance gatehouse where there was a display of WW2 military vehicles, including a T34 tank and a Katusha rocket launcher. ...

Started with thick cold fog, temp not above 12 degrees all day had to stop for coffee several times, think I have now overdosed on it.... Managed 554 miles but struggled at the end, knees worn out ... Due to age I guess. Some nice countryside, but no nice pictures as cloudy misty all day. Hopefully manage to get at least to Moscow, tomorrow that is... Well I ...
