... city. Awesome architecture and canals winding around the city, as I took tons of pictures as always and just enjoyed the city.
Apparently Brugges had a movie made recently with it as a location; I'll have to check it out sometime. The main "art" piece I saw was a Madonna with Child from -the- Michaelangelo from Italy. It was quit nice, as were the countless other paintings and sculptures I saw in that ...
... riding the bus with my huge backpack. Things always seem tougher and the rides longer when I have to haul it around with me. I won't miss it that much, I'm afraid. Anyways, it was acutally only about a 10 minute bus ride to the area where Johanna lives, and I found her apartment right away.
I greeted her and we had some really nice conversation, and she made some delicious ...
... the amazing Louvre, with the Mona Lisa and thousands of other pieces of art, as well as the Chateau de Versailles. Anyways, Paris was amazing, and now I'll be in Lille for a couple of days..
My European trip is coming to an end in about 2 weeks or so, when I leave from Dusseldorf on the 8th of December to Fort Myers Florida. But before that I still have a bit of Netherlands and Belgium to enjoy..
... well I think, travelling over 1400 miles (or over 2300km) and the car ran faultlessly! Overall it was an awesome holiday, we all had heaps of fun and all said we'd like to do it again. The next one is in early May, and is going to be a motorsport themed event, running through France to Monaco, ending at the Monaco Grand Prix. I'd really like to go on this rally, but won't be able to as I'll be on the Topdeck training trip!
... attention to detail.
Back on the road, we headed further north and crossed over the border in Luxembourg. We stopped briefly at some motorway services, but as we were running short for time we didn't get the chance to stop in Luxembourg city. Going through one village we did see a pretty cool house on top of an outcrop of rocks, which looked great all lit up, but it was hard to get a shot which did it justice.
After crossing over into Belgium we stopped for gas, then ...
... went for a wander around the Beguinage and the little streets of the city before stopping for lunch in a restaurant on the main square, which was really nice and served local traditional food which was really great.
We wanted to go up the clock-tower but the queue was far too long and we decided that we could go back another day during the week when there weren't so many tourists!
The Christmas market had just started in Bruges so we spent quite a while wandering ...
We are almost home. This will probably be the last entry. I will save you all from my final thoughts and sweeping conclusions about the continent. For those, you can approach me in person. Instead I'll just give you some quick updates of how we've been doing since we left the Swedes to their meatballs and progressive thinking. Mirabel took her first steps a few days ago in The Hague. They were ...
Bruges, Belgium cantelon-polley... I thought I lost my journal! It's the one item I can't afford to lose. Luckily I found it underneath some assorted **** that was lying on the table. I grabbed a second beer - this time a Straffe Hendrik. Not too shabby. Not a great meal, but definitely good value. They do a really good takeout business here with students - takeout pastas from 2.7 Euros. But it's much more expensive to dine in. The other day I saw many ...
Bruges, Belgium pwong... it's still going strong. The old look of the city has been maintained by restoring the old buildings instead of tearing them down. This is what gives each square and street its own character and ambiance. Not being an architectural expert, I can't give you an expert explanation of the architechtural styles. But, suffice it to say, the styles seem to run the gamut of an 800 year period. The museums we covered yesterday were The ...
