      There are a few drizzles this morning and since we are heading for Lake Bled in the Julian Alps we expect more rain. Left at 8:30 AM for the two hour drive into the mountains. At our first rest stop we had pear brandy to celebrate Darko, our bus driver's birthday which is really tomorrow. We drove around Lake Bled stopping first at the Bled Castle high atop a hill. ...

      ... in Europe). Breakfast here was on a smaller scale, but certainly adequate. They had scrambled eggs, wieners, cold meats and cheeses, yogurt, cereals, breads and buns, juices, etc.

      The older gentleman and his wife, who had been on the train yesterday, arrived as I was finishing breakfast and he mentioned that the train problem yesterday was caused by a train-car collision. That would certainly explain the problem.

      ... city gate, the Arco dei Gavi. By this time the clouds were rolling in and it was time to head off towards Slovenia and Ljubljana with a rather damp picnic on the way.

      When we arrived in Ljubljana it was 13C and raining. The receptionist said we had arrived on a historic day, as it had not been that cold for 40 years in July.... brrrr. We had to search for jeans and jumpers and headed into town for a warming Slovenian supper.

      ... To my surprise the little tents were all part of a wine festival! We figured out how to buy a glass and got started!
      To our surprise, tasting the wine was free. The tickets we purchased earned us a full glass when we handed them to the vendors instead of just a taste. The wine came from all over Europe and they had every variety you could ever dream of. I have ...
