... the first dictionaries, and many scientific books of the day. I smiled as there was a room marked "Chambres des Correcteurs" - the proofreaders. And proofreader marks have not changed much since. We ate chocolate and real Belgian waffles. Saturday is shopping day in Antwerp and the streets were packed. We spent a couple hours with a coffee just people watching. This morning we took the train to Bruges, stopping in Ghent for several hours to see one of the art masterpieces ...

... time with my nose pressed against the window watching the English countryside whizz past. I did my knitting while we went through the very long, very dark tunnel as there was really nothing to see until we emerged into sunshine and France.
The country side was wonderful, very pretty and very green. Every now and then there were little houses dotted around an old church. I loved every single bit of it while Jo had a little nap.

We got off at Brussels and changed trains ...

... the Grand Place) and its bell tower (from which Brendan Gleeson jumped in "In Bruges"), Burg square, and the Church of Our Lady. We ended back at the frites stands in front of the bell tower, and Rolinka made us find our own way back to the hotel. Since we all showed up in the lobby later on, I guess we're all smarter than she thinks we are.
