23rd Nov (cont) Out about 10pm to upload the finished diary to Travelpod. Our first internet place can do it, so feeling very pleased with ourselves. Only thing is, when we go to copy it, it won't copy. Think it is because they only have one copy of the software, but are using it on all the computers. We eventually admit defeat, and tell them, and we change to another computer, and all works well. Just starting to open our email, when there is a sudden blackout. They close the shop, and we a...
El Calafate, Argentina diannemurrayAfter an exhausting bus trip from Calafate to Puerto Madryn (via Rio Gallegos in the south because it very definitely IS off-season now and bus journeys are getting more and more awkward) I was happy to be hit by sun in this pleasant little town. This region is a centre for marine wildlife spotting (if you come at the right time of year - it turns out that May is the worst month to be here: I was told the orcas have just left, whales are yet to arrive and penguins are long gone). On my first ...
Trelew, Patagonia, Argentina drb1001Hello Again Before I start the latest update, Lorraine would like to clear up a few things... 1. The plane incident was due to her TV monitor not working for the 10 hour flight to Sao Paulo, and another arrogant passenger making it difficult for the stewards to move Lorraine easily, she can assure you that no disabled people were inconvenienced at all. 2. The introduction to Monique & Eric was after 2 beers on a very hot evening, and that is the excuse she is sticking to. 3. She cannot wa...
Sure as hell hope not! Verder nog iets in het Spaans ...
Trelew, Patagonia, Argentina heinlisenka... told me she was the resident professor for the museum, she was that knowledgable. Nearly all the fossils in the exhibition had been recovered from this province, with only a few replicas. They were quite adamant to insist that the largest dinosaur in history is the Argentinosaurus from South America, not the Ultrasaurus found in North America. I think that once an animalīs hip bone reaches the two story mark, the argument is rather moot, but thatīs ...
Trelew, Patagonia, Argentina nathan.frisch... reason other than it was 12 hours from BA (probably could still hear the jewelery) then promptly left after a few hours having realised there was pretty much bugger all there. So we arrived in Puerto Madryn, in the Welsh part of Patagonia. Yep, honestly ...
Kus
Trelew, Argentina casenanneliekeWe were picked up early yesterday morning to go to Punto Tombo to see the largest Magellanic Penguin reserve in the world, a dolphin watching expedition and finally onto a Welsh city called Gaiman for Welsh tea. When we came outside and looked at the tour bus, it was the same crazy driver that had driven us a few days earlier in the same rickety old tour van that lacked in the suspension and shocks! Siobhan and I were lucky enough to be one of the first groups to be picked up so we ...
Trelew, Argentina epijuarez... the waiter knocked a wine glass over in my direction and soaked me. I had light trousers on, but fortunately it was white wine. Another good day - felt like home. P.S. The Hosertia Gwesty Tywi was a great place. The cheapest on our travels, and very homely and welcoming. Another P.S. At lunch we met a guy from Penarth. A couple next to our table were speaking in Welsh. She was a local, and had just returned from Wales to retire, and he was a friend visiting. Itīs a small world.
Gaiman, Argentina jonlizz... and when we watched the sunset from the Ecocentro in Puerto Madryn it was similar, but the other end of the sky was a deep purple. Weird but cool. The Ecocentro is a touchy feely museum of the marine environment in Patagonia. It's got underwater ambient sounds playing and lots of facts on the sealife. Bridgett and I went fact-hunting and found out the following: - Sea lion bulls can have up to 150 mates in one season - Killer whales (orcas) beach ...
