... of Michelangelo, Galileo, Niccolo Medicci and Dante, as well as works by Donatello. On our way there, we walked through a little alleyway where school children were being let out for the day and families were there picking them up (no one was in a car; everyone walked or rode bikes). It was a very cute, Italian, everyday scene, and we enjoyed watching it unfold. ... in Italy. Florence is crazily busy all the time and a lot like Rome in many ways.  On our last day in Florence, we finally visit the Uffizi. There is some wonderful art there, but I have to say I am a bit disappointed. We had been led to believe it was the most exceptional collection of art to be seen and whilst there are some remarkable pieces (Michelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael, Caravaggio to name a few) there is again a preponderance of devotional ...

... able to glimpse the construction of the building and finally by ladder up to the balcony and the epic view of sprawling Firenze.

On our last night we finally visited the famous bridge, il Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge), which was originally built as early as 996 but rebuilt twice, the latest being in 1345. This bridge was the only one left intact in Florence by retreating Germans in 1944.
