Exploring and Burning Rubber in Southern Italy

... I also had the best lemon granita (like a slushy but much more elegant!) I have ever tasted. This is a very pretty town and the houses are almost orange in colour as opposed to the grayish, beige, yellow tones we've seen. Also, the streets are lined with gelato places making it even more of a must see! This is where Rob burned rubber in Pizzo as we had to back track and do multiple u-turns to get into the gelato place parking lot. He may be a "snowflake" ...

    Amantea Market Day

We started our day with breakfast at La Gioiosa, where we are staying, joined by Louise and Deron, and Alana, Roberto, Pam and Jeff, before they depart for Bari. They coincidentally have a neighbour from Cleto who is also here on vacation, so they met up and he gave them the tour of the town yesterday. Pam reminds me very much of her aunt Jessie, who we got to know well from her visits to the Soo. Her smile and ...

    The Pittsburgh and Rome Connection

We started our morning greeted by our Pittsburgh cousins who were already down in the restaurant having breakfast. Alana, originally from Pittsburgh, has been living in Rome now for 8 years and her boyfriend Roberto is from Bari. I went down to the house with them to show them the way while Rob and Jess headed for the beach. Jacqueline chose a sleep in morning rather than going to the beach (a girl after my own heart!!). We arrived at the ...

I caved and went to the beach this morning but not before we said goodbye to Alessandro and family. We have had much fun with them and will miss his and Tiziana's sense of humour and warmth and the smiles of their beautiful children.
The beach was busy but normal I think for here. Jacqueline ordered up a giambella from the vendors that walk the beach. Meg, we were thinking of you. I kept thinking "snowflake" and Rob does ...

    Laundry and Such

... off across the way, dealt with laundry and came back to our room for a wee rest ourselves. Zia Isolina has a mass said for Uncle Angelo and my mom when she comes here so we went to the old church for this. It was wonderful to hear their names mentioned in the town they were born and in this very old church. Nobody quite knew how old it was but I would have to guess at least 100 years. Tonight we went up to town for a festa in the town square. The theme was 60's, 70's ...
