      ... found so it's the small island to the right of this point) ...and caught a 2 hour boat trip to "the backpacker part of the Island" in the north (salang). Accommodation is a little beach hut extremely basic, but we can be thankful for a toilet with a seat and a chain! Never mind the cold shower and floor matress. There are 5 4 of is in a room working out 10 pounds each with is actually pricey for Asia but ridiculous value ...

      We canceled our last night on the previous island to make it here sooner, so big expectations...and so disappointments :) After a very long trip, of close to 24hours, we finally arrived this afternoon on our last destination...which is the best! It took us: - 45 min boat ride from Perhentian - 10 min taxi to the bus station - almost 6 hours waiting for our night bus to leave ( which it finally did at 11pm) - 8 hours on the bus, and this time not the luxurious bus ...

      ... for a refreshing swim before walking back for lunch. We saw some of the flying squirrels, a couple of water monitor lizards, the sea eagle and a kingfisher.

      Snorkelling in the afternoon. Melissa and friend went kayaking only to get covered on black oil. During the day a fair amount of oil was washed onto the beach and clung onto anything it could like the boats and jetties. Oil removed with petrol and lots of showers.       ... leave so she was going to have to go as she couldn’t run the project on her own. Amazingly her visa was due to expire at the same time as us and after a couple of phone call and emails it was agreed. We were off to Lang Tengah to take part in another TRACC project for the final month of our visa, result. Now we just need to get out of this job.

      Something makes me think that Jasbeer has a few volunteers who don’t stick it out as he was not ...

      Literally eye-to-eye! This brave turtle fronted a gang of Scuba divers (a mass of black wet suit and bubbles) and gave us the sceptical look up and down before reluctantly letting us off...

      Underwater camera poised and ready to go the turtle fronted up to K at the head of the bunch (as usual) aaaaaaaand...the camera shut down so no picture - bugger! To be fair we were 20 metres down and it is a 12 metre depth camera!!! (The camera is an ...
