... we loaded up the car, said our goodbyes to Grandma and Tarja, and then started the drive south to Kemi. The route out of Venejärvi takes you through Sieppijärvi, so we stopped in at Maria’s other Grandma for coffee. We should have known that you can’t just have coffee when you visit a Finnish home but instead of just some biscuits, fresh waffles were the call of the day. And heaps of them, literally, the plate was being filled with ...

... deadline – the flight back to Europe from Buenos Aires.

Once back in Europe, we were taking it easy again. No rush to get up the morning, no strict plans of where to be and when. That was, until now…

However, it was not possible to pay anyone as the tourist office, some 300m away was closed and wouldn’t be open by the time we departed in the morning. Other boats had similar problems and as they were locals ie Finns, we decided to follow their example and not worry. One of the boats had the code for the minimal toilet facilities, one male and one female shower ...

A bleak harbour

During the changeable weather yesterday, one momentous event occurred during the late afternoon, the wind finally became unstuck from the north and for a time, actually came from the south east. Naturally therefore, as I'm nothing if not an optimist and especially as yesterday’s forecast predicted it, I assumed that the wind would be blowing from this direction this morning but sadly and to my dismay, it was firmly back from whence it’s been all June – ...
