... in Catolica, only about 5km from our hotel but he lived in Coriano. This town was included in our ride home from San Marino. It is obvious as you ride through Coriano that Simoncelli was well loved. Flags fly from the lamp posts and there are several memorials in the town to him. The race track at Misano - just up the road has also been renamed after him. A fitting memorial for a very memorable rider and character.

... interesting as there were some very old buildings mixed in with the new.

It was time to head up towards the top western corner to Greece, to visit Corfu. Did you know that Corfu only joined Modern Greece in 1864? We didn’t! And it also turns out that Phil the Greek – or is that Sir Phil the Greek, was born in Corfu! And it was also the beloved holiday location of Empress Elisabeth (Sissi) of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. We visited both locations (Mon Repos & Archilleon) but weren’t very impressed ...

... we more or less stumbled upon our hotel, which turned out to be very high standard. We sat outside and shared a beer before negotiating the challenge of how to get up into the ancient walled town above. Looking at it from below, I could appreciate how the Italians (back in the day) had failed to conquer it. It is the oldest republic in the world. Our plans to take the cable car were dashed by the receptionist when she ...
