... who had warships in the harbor and were bombing the island. Venizelos was the politician responsible for making Crete a part of Greece in 1913. There were beautiful views of the town from this hilltop. There is a small church there which was rebuilt with funds from Csar Nicholas the II.

We then went to the town center to the market which was opened ...

... to see a goat sitting in a tree. On this trip, we first stopped at Agia Sophia Cave, which means The Cave of the Wisdom of God.  To get inside, you had to walk up many steps.  Once inside, there is also an alter where there are artifacts that were found in the cave and are believed to be from the Neolithic period. ... dessert and booze at the end.  The first night was the freshest green grapes with Raki.  The second night was coconut pound cake and Raki.  Raki is part of Cretan culture,  It is 37%25 alcohol and comes from grapes after crushing them.  It is stiff!  Couple that with a sweet dessert! We took an overnight ferry from Athens to Chania, Crete. We were glad to take a room on the ferry, since the lounges were hot and crowded. After arriving by bus to the center of town, we checked our luggage and searched for a hotel.
