... Completely forgot we saw the farmers feeding them corn this weekend. There's a lot of corn grown on the island, but I think it's mainly to feed to cows. They have drying racks and dry whole corn stalks, then they toss the stalks in the field. Also, for the first time today, saw some cows eating hay. So, my theory on why to beef tastes different is totally whack.

Had some great tastes of home yesterday and today. Had mexican for dinner last night. It was no Sante Fe but it was good. They had sour cream as an appetizer, but the description said spicy cheese. I thought it might have been queso becuase of the description, but it wasn't. Just a big ole bowl ...

The contractors busted a water line on the job today, not their fault, but still bad. And I'm not talking just a small little private line - I'm talking an 8inch gusher. Couldn't find a valve nearby and it took an hour to contact the water company and get them out to ...

... in these pools. The island has built walkways and stairs into the pools and they are completely amazing. The water is an incredible blue and is crystal clear. Final stop was Ponta do Raminho, which we went to yesterday, but did not have a good view. Today was clear enough to see some of the other islands including Graciosa, and part of Sao Jorge.

Started the day working. Actually, my coworkers worked. I dropped them off, and they continued our site visit while I drove to the next pickup point. Did I mention that all the cars here are manual. I haven't driver a stick shift in about 18 years - and my parents can vouch for the fact that I wasn't very good at it. So....I'm driving a stick shift, in portugal, in the rain, with a sprained ...

... that we're dealing with. We usually have to cross one about every 100 to 200 feet. I guess it was bound to happen, and I was actually being careful!

Anyway, saw lots of cows, bulls, and spiders today, along with the ever present beautiful landscape. Not sure if the whale trip is on tomorrow due to the totally sucky weather.

I've survived the international flights, I survived the bullfight, but I have no survived myself. We all know that I'm a klutz, so the random bumps and bruises here and there are par for the course. However, I stepped it up a notch today. Fell down a rock wall, on my ass, in the rain, in a cow pasture, somersaulted over my head, and sprained my ankle. Not as bad as the last ...

... the street on a rope and people jump in front of the bull and try to get it to charge at them. I didn't get a very good picture of the bull because we were at the end and there weren't many people, so we were literally in the bull's eye and I high tailed it out of there!

Very appropos (or ironic, however you want to look at it), we went to a steak house for dinner! Ventured a little further ...

... still a wonderful experience. I'm trying to use more portuguese, but it's hard when everyone speaks english!
