... but we are getting there.

The trade off is we are in a beautiful environment. Very dry air, and hard water. Altitude also affects the temperature water boils at, and how long things take to cook. Soft boiled egg is 6 minutes. Fortunately there is an App to help with such things. Also means that hangovers can arrive early and hit hard. Possible due in part to dehydration, but alt also contributes to less oxygen in the blood. Up and down stairs is often hard ...

... that there is a national day of mourning in France today for those that were killed in a terrorist attack in Paris. Twelve people were killed. A policeman also was shot in a different village. Very sad. The news tonight was very focussed on it.

Nicole kept us moving with less steps than usual. At the top we got coffee from the old crone. 2 € to use squat toilet! no paper or water. The hut was dilapidated & we think she boiled just enough water for each cup. Cracked cups, yuk.but at least it ...

Walked along a really rugged stoney river. The path was undulating along the cliffs' high points. Very pleasant. Nicole left us for a while to take the mule on an easier path.
An easy walk through a couple of very old villages. Black timbered houses with an old town bread oven. This was used by the 3 towns to bake bread once a year. ...

No notes, just that Refugio Berthone was at the top of a huge climb out of Courmayer. stopped for ice cream in town &a look around. Deb had convinced us we were staying in a hotel in town, so much disappointment . Earlier in the day we'd lunched in a ski village above Courmayer. Left Elizabetha lodge & walked along the Lac de Combal. Then straight up ...
