... at station with a nice glass of Pinot Grigio. Quick 40 min trip to Como- out of the flatlands into the mountains. Light rain and a bit cooler. Como is a disappointment- not much to see, but several nice piazza between crowded buildings. The only hotel in town that looked interesting was closed for winter so Tourist office suggested a place in Cernobbio ( sounds like Chenoble) about 6 km away. Terzo Crotto. Lovely 100 year old hotel with big courtyard in quaint little village ...

... br> Parma is a city of just under 200,000 which is famous for its ham's and cheeses. It is also famous for architecture. The city is very pleasant and small enough to walk around, just like Brescia.

We had a walk around the city, a bite to eat and a few beers before returning to the hotel.

I asked Ian whether he had a big lake on his map to which the reply came that that was the Mediterranean! So, for the rest of the trip the Med will be referred ...

... hills above Casette. Tim's Casa is an impressive place and has a marvellous view overlooking the local mountain range. The view always changes and it's great just to sit and watch it. Up at the Casa Tim fires up the Pizza oven and we have a good time catching up and reminiscing about the devious past. As usual Rhid and myself stay up too late playing loud music and generally behaving like the idiots we are. Tomorrow we're off for some fun and frolics by the seaside in Lerici.

Breakfast at the hotel and a visit to the battistero and the cathedral. Found a deli and bought up big - parma ham, parma cheese, balsamic, Lambrusco and olive oil. Lunch out at La Forchetta - just below our room window! Highlight was the Aubergine parmagiana with smoked cheese. Beautiful old town... Now enjoying the local produce at home with a bottle of ...
