      ... did the fresco which led to him being commissioned to do the Duomo, only a few minutes from our hotel. Wonderful artwork throughout the church: you can see why he (and Parmagianino too) got the later commissions which made them famous. The onto Santa Maria Steccata, more amazing frescoes. Why was this artform so popular in Parma?

      Seriously, hardly anywhere was open apart from the galleries and museums - even some churches were closed. On Sunday?? Parma is an odd town, as it is difficult to describe it shortly.

      ... a slog....Michael did suggest we could have just tobogganed down on our cases! The bus to Pesaro is one of those tri-axle jobs (probably because of the several hairpins going up to Urbino) and very comfortable, for those who enjoy buses of course!
