Well today started the same way the past 5 mornings started - rain! However by 9am the heavy rain had stopped and it started getting warmer. So we headed to Rotsee to watch the NZ rowing crews in action at the World Cup. With 12 crews making the A finals we were hoping for a few wins. Our aim for today was to get ourselves to Lucerne, Switzerland. We have a flexible ticket that is valid for two weeks, so can choose any train on the schedule to get us there. Our initial aim was the 10:50am, but we changed our mind and decided to do some washing first as we didn't have to check out till midday, and we didn't want to have to be bothered with getting Swiss franc coins for a Swiss laundromat. I left Portland on the 7th at 2:15 ... A half hour late because of some mechanical problem and got to Amsterdam still on time. There was a three and half hour layover there before the flight to Zurich. The flights were smooth and good. I was met in the Zurich airport by the Grand Circle representative who took me to the taxi that drove me to Lucerne. It was about an hour's drive. Has been a long day. ...

... side of the main road in historic Berne and although there was heavy construction, it was still beautiful. We bought snacks and sat down on the ledge of the river that runs through Berne and had a picnic. A few of my friends were feeling adventurous and jumped into the river from a pedestrian footbridge. ... so foggy and snowing that I couldn't see anything. I also went to Interlaken to have a go in the treetop high ropes. I surprised myself with what I was capable of and how much my balance has improved. I managed to complete the hardest level and didn't fall once or need to rely on my safety harness to support me.
