Some of Alice's Diary Notes for Harlingen
" ..................We didn't realise how much time we had spend at the cemetery (locating the graves of Alice's infant brothers) so we took off and drove to Harlingen. Harlingen is the harbour of Friesland and a gorgeous little place. Lots of beautiful boats waiting to cross the Wadden which is the sea between Friesland and the islands of ...
... glad to be here to witness it. It stormed most of the night with intermittent pounding rain, bellowing thunder and frightening lightening. Not a very peaceful night for sleeping. Tomorrow we are off to teach her English students again. Thanks for your comments and keeping up with the blog. I am enjoying it much more than I thought I would; I hope you are enjoying it as well.
Delft, Noord-Holland, Netherlands cathycross... off.. 20 minutes later I returned to the shop with the same flat tire. Most of my day was spent like that, back and forth. Finally, with my bike in running order I biked off into the horizon. Literary. I biked until I reached the beach. Den Haag (The Hague) is only about 16km away from Delft. It makes for a nice bike ride of around 40 minutes.
Den Haag, Noord-Holland, Netherlands rbair... fun - a couple from Boise Idaho. We ended up going for lunch with them at the Pancake bakery (apparently famous). The pancakes were not at all like home they were more like pizza's, Nina from our travel group got one that was full of Bananas, chocolate, whip cream (sorry Darol and Patty I am saving that for IHOP) I got a bacon and cheese pancake while Brett got some kind of sugar pancakes. Overall it was a great experience, and Steve and Nina ...
The Hague, Noord-Holland, Netherlands rockobattyOn the way to Amsterdam, the train had an "engineering problem" that lead us to be unloaded in some remote village. I caught a regional train from there and made it to the city with plenty of daylight left to spare. Wandered around and concluded that it is certainly one of the best looking places I've ever seen. There's water everywhere, the architecture and general layout of the streets and alleys is pleasing, everyone's tall and thin and there are enough ...
Heerhugowaard, Noord-Holland, Netherlands spassvogelI took a day trip out to The Hague before starting work. While my guidebook calls it "Amsterdam's stern maiden aunt", the city had several nice museums. I made it to the Mauritshaus, the Binneof, and the International Court of Justice before my feet started to throb and I had to go home.
The Hague, Noord-Holland, Netherlands anneelise84I blinked and Munich was over. Such a great time and I met such great people. I have a theory in life that good people attract other good people and this trip definitely helped solidify that. Our last night was super fun and we met some cool ass chics. The weather in Munich stayed beautiful for us. Just 2 days of rain, the rest were amazing. Arriving in Amsterdam in a bit, a little hungover but totally psyched. Thank you Munich for the time of my life!
Bennekom, Noord-Holland, Netherlands emailtosh... not together-that would just be madness!). This past weekend Roelof and I also adopted a bunny. He's a 2-month old "bearded rabbit," which basically just means he's really furry. His name is Benji, and he's extremely friendly and surprisingly very calm; and as Roelof jokes, he is our first 'official' addition to our future in-house zoo :) Beyond that there isn't a whole lot to report. I've joined a gym in the area (it's enormous, and includes the largest ...
Broek op Langedijk, Netherlands lturpyn... to the sheep grazing on salt marsh plants. The festival included lots of gourmet foods made from the Texel lamb. We had lambchops, lamb rosti, lamb croquettes and ice cream made from sheeps milk. We also had a salad that included vegetables from the sea, North Sea shrimp and lamb ham. After listening to the local band playing Dixie and filling our gullets with island fare we boarded the ferry and headed home ...
De Koog, Netherlands chronometersSo here we are... meet my family! I left the London hostel at about 8.40am for the 9.45 bus - and decided to walk to the bus stop at Gloucester Place as it looked far to complicated to catch all the buses. It was only a couple of miles anyway, so not so bad! But I got there really easily and at about 9.05 - very early. the 9.10 bus was late (my ticket was for 9.45 so it didn't matter anyway) - but the bus turned up at 9.25 to pick up some very ...
