... slaughtered by the Germans. They then burned the village and buried the bodies in a mass grave. The village has been kept exactly as it was after the Germans left it. It was very sobering to see. You can see the marks in the wall where the bullets hit. There is a memorial in the village graveyard to commemorate this event.
We left there, very sad, and let our views of the countryside lighten ...

... above the ground and 4 larger containers were underneath that were storing the rubbish and were on wheels. Very neat design. Today we decided to deviate again from the recommended trip notes so we explored the village first - quite a few of this were closed I think due to a funeral occurring later in the day. The wild flowers on the river bak were out in bloom and made the riverbank look quite attractive. The water is quite a brownish colour - I did here ...

... and chilli. We say outside under a tree with a couple of other diners. There was only one waitress working so she was flat out. It was a lovely setting. There was a goose gizzard tart for entree but I decided to give it a miss and went for a black ham chiffon are with a cherry chutney and chilli - delicious but too much ham. We did have some fun coming up with reasons for why it was called black ham - decided it was because it was a black pig! Main was a fish ...

... served an aperitif - melon gazpacho shot, olive tapenade and prawn risotto. Entree was a bacon and vegetable risotto with a foam - reminded me of Heston! Main was veal with a mushroom sauce and some lovely vegetables. Soft goats cheese with herbs and balsamic reduction. Dessert was panacotta with citrus sorbet and a coconut and cream tube Absolutely delicious Again the portions were a perfect size and the flavours ...

... wonder what she would think of all the Australian houses! Dinner was awesome. The courses were that little more refined and really well balanced. Entree was foie gras with orange powder and mango sorbet. Main was cod with chorizo on a bed or caramelised onion and pulled beef, cheese and then coconut smoothie for dessert. We didn't have coffee but we did get the gourmand - mini coconut smoothie, choc fudge cake and creme brûlée biscuit. It was all amazing. ...
