... the beautiful sunroom they have. Pete and Bert were also comparing notes on the hardship of being a "floaty pen husband" – how every vacation is spent hunting for pens!

We then checked into our hotel and met Biggy and Bert downstairs in the restaurant an hour later for dinner. Wow! What a meal! It was huge and so delicious. No room for dessert, that’s for sure!
Gronau, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany kveeti... food. Given that this journey took me nearly two hours in a car, it was no mean feat on a bicycle.

Some farming family took pity on Dad and took him in. I don't know how long he stayed or where exactly the farm was, only that it was somewhere near Hengelo. For all I know, it was Sander and Renata's place. I doubt if there is any way of finding out now, either. At the end of his stay, they put him on a bus back to ...
Hengelo, Overijssel, Netherlands rachelkwThe cashew nuts were in a huff with me, after their earlier failure to give adequate directions. They folded their nutty arms and refused to tell me when to change motorways. I ended up back-tracking through a small village with no useful signposts, and some locals who waved every time we drove back past them looking for the way out. The cashew nuts smirked at me.

It was quite late by the time we got to Sander and Renata's farmhouse on the outskirts of Hengelo. It is a lovely ...
Deurningen, Overijssel, Netherlands rachelkw... Linda met us at the station and we drove back to Coesfeld, a little town of about 40,000 surrounded by corn fields, cows, sheep and forest. The temperature here is in the 60s and 70s. When we left Houston it was about 98 degrees and very humid. I like this climate better. So far our days consist of conversation. Lots of catching up, lots of German being spoken. I can make out some of what's being said, and I'm slowly learning some German words. Senf, for instance, means ...
Coesfeld, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany jrutledge... the textiles and machinery industries. It currently focuses on industry relationships. They have a very large nano program. Attached is a picture of the Nanolabs they are constructing. It makes me feel like home. Also is a picture of a clock tower in the middle of the pond. Because the school is so new, they needed to invent a history. They put a church tower in the middle of the pond and have created a very elaborate mythology.
Enschede, Overijssel, Netherlands l_schultzBelow is just a silly sort of essay I came up with while commuting to work on a cold, gray, windy day. There is a sunnier sequal to it coming up soon. RUN! Leafless trees, lifeless lives And the unbearable greyness of being Just another rat in the race Just another rat in the lab Let them earn a little money Let them spent a little more Let them run in their tiny treadmills Let them run to the shops and store Nothing but stuff to fit their cage Invest ...
Winterswijk, Netherlands cb_goes_againAfter spending the last few days in Amsterdam I could use a more relaxed day. Heading to Deventer today to drop some stuff off with a friend. The original plan was to head to Nijmegen to visit some more people but we decided to head back to Amsterdam and finish the night with some beer instead.
Deventer, Netherlands dimitris_... more beer that weekend than I have my whole life. That isn't saying much because I never drink beer because it is disgusting usually. I don't want to give you the illusion that I got drunk either, I didn't, but we'd have beer with every meal besides breakfast and often as a casual drink in the evening. German beer is really good too. They add pop like Sprite or Coke to their beers, which makes it even better. 80) Anyways, then we ...
Vreden, Germany pianoandguitarsTravelled by train from Amsterdam to Enschede which is in the east of the country. My purpose was to visit the School of Management at the University of Twente. The university is situated in a very beautiful parkland environment. Stayed at the Hotel Eden de Broeierd which is situated close to the university. The hotel itself is in a nice setting and very quiet.
