... and hot in summer. On the right are the remaining ablution blocks which were originally German army stables, broken down and transported to Birkenau. There were rows of toilet seats at one end, channels where basins would have been at the other end – prisoners were given only a couple of minutes per day to go to the toilet and wash, that was it. And there was a water shortage as well so no wonder they fell ill and died.
... playing a drinking game which I was just terrible at. So drinking from 7 pm to 3 am like this is not the best formula for a night out, and at 3 am the decision was made to go to bed rather than go out, might be best as Girihen had to get up at 9 for work... Very nice stopover and we had a lot of laughs....but I've really got to stop trying to drink Vodka like the eastern Europeans, it's just not possible...please forgive me body...

We did not know this, but Auschwitz itself was a concentration and an extermination camp, the only one of its kind built, we also did not know that the 5 extermination camps that were built, were all built in Poland. There were concentration camps dotted all across Europe, but the camps specifically designed for genocide were only built in Poland due to its central location in Europe, and also because the number of Jews that actually lived in Poland was very high before ...

Our last sight of that dear wee boy was of him sleeping peacefully on his tummy with his little legs tucked up and his bottom in the air – what a wee pet he is, Andy and Justyna are so lucky he is such a great little fellow.
And that was Poland, and now it’s the start of the trip around the other side of the world and home again in a few days. ...
... late for work even once, even with a good excuse, then don’t bother turning up tomorrow – no toleration for lateness. They have a 25 minute turnaround on the ground, clean the toilets before landing then lock them, do two or three rubbish runs during the flight, there are no magazine holders on seat backs, no head protectors just bare seats, seats don’t recline and they’re wipe-clean so no fabric damage, so I suppose ...
