Today was a long awaited, but somber day. The day started off a little bit tense when some members of the group slept in and were late to the bus, while a couple of others had to be left behind due to the tight schedule. ... and hot in summer. On the right are the remaining ablution blocks which were originally German army stables, broken down and transported to Birkenau. There were rows of toilet seats at one end, channels where basins would have been at the other end – prisoners were given only a couple of minutes per day to go to the toilet and wash, that was it. And there was a water shortage as well so no wonder they fell ill and died.
... playing a drinking game which I was just terrible at. So drinking from 7 pm to 3 am like this is not the best formula for a night out, and at 3 am the decision was made to go to bed rather than go out, might be best as Girihen had to get up at 9 for work... Very nice stopover and we had a lot of laughs....but I've really got to stop trying to drink Vodka like the eastern Europeans, it's just not possible...please forgive me body...

Secondly the camp that I envisaged and I have seen been portrait on TV and in the movies many times is the Birkenau or Auschwitz 11 camp approximately 7km from Auschwitz 1 Camp. Originally a village called Brzezinka (meaning birch tree) the village was destroyed and called Birkenau a German translation. ...

Our last sight of that dear wee boy was of him sleeping peacefully on his tummy with his little legs tucked up and his bottom in the air – what a wee pet he is, Andy and Justyna are so lucky he is such a great little fellow.
