          ... not ideal for cycling. For that reason, I've chosen October as the preferred month although it was cold in the mountains of Nagano (but not a problem if you're dressed for it). (October is also harvest time for apples, grapes and persimmons which makes for deliciously fresh fruit.)           ... Japanese tradition of presentable packaging/wrapping.

          After returning to the inn from yesterday's monster climbs, I was too bagged to write and I am now in Ashikaga, Tochigi Prefecture on the last leg of my tour.

          For yesterday's ride, I had planned a route that would take me over two mountains on the same side of the valley as the inn.
