The museum was built by Orhan Harndi Bey starting in 1842 to prevent antiquities from disappearing into Europe. They are closely guarded as are all things historic in Turkey (nothing over 100 years old leaves the country) But we stayed a few hours and were amazed at one thing after another. My problems started at the visa issuing point, though I was unaware of the trouble about to happen at the time. The cost of a visa depends on the country you are from. For an Australian the cost is 45 Euros. I had correct money in my hand but the man there said I had too much and only took 20 Euros from me.
