... experience.

Also, the man with the GI block (or maybe it's an extreme ulcer, either way nothing is getting through) had some preparation for his surgery today at the hospital that invovled cleaning out his stomach. The jar by his bed looked like a science experiment- poor guy.

Another beautiful thing is that the mother of Jemena- one of the little girls who had her cleft ...
Chulucanas, Piura, Peru annahennes... me feel like a pansy that I laid around after having my gall bladder surgery and that was even laparoscopically!

I got a few pictures from Jenifer that show some of the non-medical aspects of what we're seeing so I thought I'd share them we have a lull in the pharmacy.
Chulucanas, Piura, Peru annahennes... woman's ovary, uterus and appendix. I think it was a surprise when they opened her that this was the extent of the damage but she was taken very good care of. Also, there was a man who yesterday came in because he has lost an extreme amount of weight, I believe he weighs about 90 lbs now so he was sent to Piura for some GI tests (the equipment isn't here) and they're thinking he has an obstruction so it will be neat to see that story through while we're here.
I ...
Chulucanas, Piura, Peru annahennes... in the rubbish bag near his feet, he leaned over and threw the wrapper out the window. I felt like throttling him, or giving him a lecture but then I reminded myself that it was a cultural thing that needed to be taught in schools and in any case, my spanish was far from adequate. I felt shackled with sadness.

At the border crossing was as simple as they come. We were the only foreigners on the bus apart from some Peruvians (who were foreign to Ecuador of course). We ...
Piura, Peru casebrownfamily... It reminded us of northern Morocco, that endless feeling of riding around in a rubbish dump. It soon gave way to just plain desert, again, and that was when the meditation began, again. It would be another 35 kms before the scenery would change significantly. As the day wore on the winds died down to a really manageable breeze, which was welcome because it got very hot indeed.

We stopped to eat our little rolls in the shade of a tree (the only one for quite a ...
Sullana, Peru 50odd... more American. Almost constant source of amusement (not always intentional) with a heart definately stuck in the right place.

Lesson for us Brits

The Kids. The kids have relatively nothing except for a caring family, the freedom to be kids and maybe a football. No games consoles, no designer clothes and no strops. I have never seen such universaly happy kids. If they fall over chasing a ball they don't look around and cry but get up and run faster.

Piura, Peru escapingthenhs... guide book got it spot on.

To kick things off and add to our anxiety, Peruvian security officials finger printed and then video taped each passenger as they entered the bus. These steps simply added to the anxiety that we and one other tourist were feeling about the trip ahead.

While the borders ended up posing no greater threat than an endless bureaucratic line, the customers raised their game to add ...
Piura, Peru anthonykathryn... de Armas.
By this point, the day had turned into evening, and Andy was happy to be near a bathroom again. Eric and I walked around the city a bit and grabbed dinner at a polleria, or a rotisserie chicken shop. Peruvian pollerias are amazing-and worthy of being imported to the United States. Marinated in mystery black beer sauce-which I need to learn how to make before I leave-and cooked rotisserie style for hours ...
Piura, Piura, Peru bjergaard... the rest of the morning with either my **** or face planted in the bog. At the clinic i was asked to give a sample but by that time i had nothing left in me. Spent the afternoon sleeping and watching telly and by 5 i was feeling pretty normal again. Thankfully it must have been food poisoning and not the dreaded parasite that matt and helen have been keeping as a pet. Out for dinner in the evening but i hadnt gotmy apetite back yet.
Piura, Peru andrewjlatham... a small group of jagged stone peaks covered in thousands and thousands of birds, crooning and swooping across the sea and sky. On the shore of the larger islands hundreds of sea lions basked in the sun and barked at each other and the passing tour boats. It was beyond imagination - one of the most amazing natural habitats we've seen. Our tour then took us to several beautiful vistas including a ...
