    ... each person is provided slippers that we are expected to wear while walking inside the ryokan. They say one size fits all, but Brett’s wide feet are popping out of the slippers and he has to walk like a Geisha to prevent them from sliding off. The housemaids at the ryokan just giggle as they think he’s so cute!

    ... leave for dinner the maid moves the table and puts two futon mattresses down for us as a bed. We enjoyed a traditional Japanese group dinner of 7 servings including sushi, shabu-shabu and miso soup. The best meal we’ve had in Japan thus far.

    ... to the town of Ito, a seaside town in the Izu peninsula. There we stayed a in beautiful 100 year old ryokan converted into a youth hostel named Ks house, and the value for money was incredible! We enjoyed a peaceful stay in another traditional Japanese room- unfortunately this time there were no Yukata robes for Gabe to enjoy.     ... grounds is prohibited, but the East gardens of the Imperial complex is open to the public, so we made the most of this. The gardens are picturesque in all the ways you`d expect of a Japanese garden: calm, with a small waterfall flowing into a pool of brightly coloured carp. All this with Tokyo`s impressive urban centre towering in the background, you get a real sense of Japan present and past wandering in the gardens.
