    ... then we rushed the last 3/4 in about 5 minutes! We finally got to Ito and collected our car for three days. This region doesn't feature in the Lonely Planet but is a popular tourist spot for Japanese. We head south down the coast road and there are some lovely views.     ... s a good location. We found a great grocery store within walking distance. The two train stations are both an easy walk away. A break in the rain allowed for a short outing to the nearby beach on the fourth.     We are excited to be in Kyoto now. Kyoto used to be Japan's capital ( for over a thousand years) before Tokyo became capital in 1869. So there is so much culture and history here. Kyoto was a contender for the atomic bomb drop, however the only reason it didn't get chosen was because one of the American decision makers had had his honeymoon here and said Kyoto was a rich cultural center and not to bomb it!     ... in the torrential rains and were trying to find a museum to park us in for a few hours. Andre and I finally couldn't take anymore, decided to cut our losses and head back to Tokyo. We asked for our tickets for the bullet train but were refused. We were told that we would have to make our back on our own. We caught a taxi to the nearest train station and were able to figure out how to take 3 commuter trains (over 100 km distance) to get back to Tokyo.

    ... and venturing out in Japan. Since Mike & I have no problem with this, we viewed the day as a date with free child care. A 20 minute train trip brought us to Kamakura, where the first Shogun established a capital in 1185. A tour guide brought us to the Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu Shrine sharing elements of Shinto and Samaruai culture.
