... the tombs of a king and a singer which were near by. Was allowed into the tomb of the singer, gave an offering and got a blessing. Maybe it'll help the old singing voice!

The day before I had tried to find a museum dedicated to Indian music but the tuk tuk driver dodnt know where it was. But today after help from the locals we were pointed in the right direction. This place (and the great people who I also met today) restored my faith in India - after hassles in ...

Gwalior- Pearl among Indian Fortresses

... complex. After visiting the fort and two other temples on top of the ridge, we noted some Buddhist detail on the walls of the ridge below. I included some pictures of them as well. This territory has changed hands many times over the centuries. We left here for Delhi, leaving Central India behind. We are now heading to Rajastan, Land of the Kings.
Gwalior

Habe das Hotel frueh verlassen (um 6:30, der Manager "You want to visit the fort now?" (oeffnet bei Sonnenaufgang, i.e. 6:50). Das Fort in Gwalior ...

More fantastic old forts

... hinm but eventually he gave up. We tried to get some sleep, but within minutes, I heard Malwina sit up and let out an incredible scream of fear and panic, and as she did I saw a small shadow scurry under the door. I though she saw a mouse, but as I asked, she said she saw some eyes in the window. I went outside the room, and saw, that with some effort, one could lean over he railing from the stairs, and look into our room through a cracj between the window and (not ...

Sanitation in the Slums

... which again is a really overwhelming experience, when they have so little to spare. Before we were taken on a tour of the slum we were treated to a musical performance i will never forget. Lead by a young boy, full of confidence and with a brilliant voice, the men performed local folk songs. One of the instruments is probably best described as a giant pair of sharp metal tweezers, and watching was quite terrifying! During our tour of the ...

Formal Presentation

... a new number. Conducted (brilliantly) by Dan B, we sang a Hindi friendship song "Chorengay", which i suspect received more marks for effort, enthusiasm and entertainment than quality or musical ability! But it was great to be able to show our appreciation. The evening was a real success, both documents were well received and the commissioner gave an interview to the papers and a TV crew. But for me it ...

In my engineering element !

... Life in the village is still rural and hard work, but people are making a good living and the improved health, wealth and happiness was overwhelming. After a late lunch in a service station on route we set off on the 4 hour drive back to Gwalior. The journey with Useff (now mine and Dan's best friend) was interesting and after ridding the world of mosquito's and wasps we discovered that giraffes would have very sore throats but look great in mini skirts! :)

Short trip to Gwalior

... and surrounding countryside was pretty dramatic. I carried on walking to the main palace called the Man Singh Palace which is a large sandstone fort type palace decorated with yellow, green and blue tiles depicting ducks! I bought my ticket which also covers some Hindu temples elsewhere and made my way into the palace. You can go down inside the palace but it got really dark and I couldn't see where I was going. Tour guides had torches and luckily a party ...
