Like the monkey park it was definitely worth the extra effort to get there and it is clear to see why the Japanese place such cultural and even spiritual importance on Fuji as it is so aesthetically pleasing and absolutely dwarfs everything around it. It took about 2 hours to go over the mountain and we arrived at about 5.30pm at the ryokan (Japanese inn). By the we made up the futons and got ourselves ready, it was time for dinner. Shigeki's favourite restaurant in the area was a beer hall restaurant serving fusion food. The only reason was not for the food but for the beer.

... our descent and walk slowly down. Now the suffering starts as climbing down is becoming the bigger challenge than the hike up. The gravel is loose and you have to pick carefully where to step without loosing the balance.
Now I regret that I wear soft shoes and my toes start to hurt. The climbing down takes all of our forces and we think that we have used the same amount of time as going up.

We start in the morning with the great breakfast of the hotel. Important is now to pack differently as we want to climb tonight Mount Fuji.

Thanks to Yuko we go for a short shopping downtown Kyoto before we pack and go.
The trrain ride to Fujinomyia takes some time and as we did not reserve the train we have to stand most of the time. Passing the area towards Fuji we see where the tea flelds are and now we understand where all ...
