Another Travel Day...Finally to Paris!

We didn't have to return our rental car to Caen until noon so we decided to try to find a Jeep Military Surplus store that looked interesting. I guess we werer intrigued with the word 'Jeep' as usual. We thought it would be kinda fun seeing Jeep stuff in France so we headed in the direction of the little star on the back of the brochure. All of the little museums around the beaches had signs pointing in their direction so we figured we could just get close and would be able to get to it. Well...

The Louvre and the Eiffel Tower!

By the time we got to Paris we didn't really want to plan our days anymore. We started to walk in the direction of the Eiffel Tower but the weather was cold and cloudy so we decided to spend the morning in the Louvre! What fun choices we had to pick from! There are gardens in front of the Louvre and I had read about different entrances around there. The line at the main entrance (the pyramid) was really long and we saw a stairway going down in the middle of the gardens and though we would try...

Ahhh.... Another day in Paris

The weather was much more kind to us today in Paris. The sun was out and not quite as cold. We started our day by walking about two blocks back to Notre Dame. The last time we went they were having mass so we didn't look around inside. It was very dark and kinda depressing inside. Gothic indeed! The vaulted ceiling was beautiful along the sides of the main isle. It was so tall inside! I'm afraid I have to say I enjoy the outside much more than the inside though. It was kinda weird because the...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Hotel Sully Saint Germain Paris

Great Experience

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed for three nights in early January. Great experience. The room was very nice, good bathroom, very clean and well maintained. The staff were frindly and helpful. The buffet breakfast was very good. Of course, the location cannot be beat. Highly recommended.

Great Staff and Location

from OceanTraveler
Stayed here in July 1-4, 2003. All staff members were extremely helpful. Great location in Latin Quarter near many good restaurants, shops, and sights. Area not "touristy". Hotel was clean. Rooms slightly larger than typical European accomodations. Will return when in Paris.

Really enjoyed the hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We were here for three day and really enjoyed it. The room was clean and very nice. We had a room with a "balcony" overlooking the street.

We were just a couple blocks from a metro We were easy walking distance to Notre Dame. The neighborhood was very nice. The staff was very polite.

We would stay here again without a doubt.

Cheers

Great hotel

I just returned from a 8 day stay at the Sully St. Germain and found it charming and delightful. Room was small but very clean and nicely decorated. Staff was friendly and very helpful and even helped me with words in French. Location can't be beat, you are about a 2 minute walk for the Pantheon and Sorbonne and a 10 minute walk from the Louvre, Cathedral of Notre Dame and Saint Chappelle. The only complaint, not all rooms have a room safe and in order to secure important items i.e passport, travel documents etc., you need to make a decision whether you are willing to leave them in the safe at the front desk. I would most definately stay here again.

Loved the Sully St. Germain

We stayed at the Sully St. Germain in 1998 and found it to be a charming, small hotel. Granted the room was small, but it was clean - had a nice view in the front of the hotel with nice big windows. The buffet breakfast was very good - with cheese, ham and croissants. The staff was very helpful if we needed anything. We will probably stay there again if we visit Paris. I would highly recommend it.

Price is high for what it is

We stayed at the Sully St.Germain in August 2001. If you see their rooms on the website, it looks like they all have interesting stone walls and nice decor but I don't know where they were because our room was very ordinary and the bed linen quite old. Rooms are small but so are all rooms in Paris. Although watching my husband try to shower sitting down in an enourmous tub without a hook for the hose or a shower curtain was hilariously, side-achingly funny, the inconvenience of it wore off after a couple of days. The staff are wonderful. Very friendly, charming and helpful. There is a nice little bar and the location is simply the best - quiet street yet only a 5 minute walk to Notre Dame. Lovely little "place" just down the street with Patisserie, Charcouterie & Maison du vins. Very close to Metro Maubert-Mutualite. When we stayed here pre-euro, we payed $80US/night, it's now 150-170 euros! Too much - stay at the Hotel St. Jacques or the Familia - same amenities but much cheaper! On my 3 subsequent trips to Paris, I stayed at other hotels - the Sully St. Germain was just too expensive but I think that for those who can afford it, they'd be very disappointed.

Very pleased with this hotel

I am frankly baffled by the negative reviews listed here. We stayed at this hotel near the end of August 2003 for 3 nights, and were very pleased with it. The photos on the website are a true reflection of the condition of the hotel. Our room was clean and more spacious than our previous hotel in Paris and had air-conditioning--a welcome surprise since we arrived in the city on the heels of a major heat wave. We found the staff to be quite helpful and friendly. The best thing about this hotel is probably the location--it's within walking distance to Notre Dame, St. Germain, the rue Mouffetard district, St. Michel, and even the Musee d'Orsay if you are ready to trek. I highly recommend this hotel! Note: it's quite common in France for bathtubs to have a shower head and no shower curtain, and this is the case at the Hotel Sully.

Don't believe the photos

from A TripAdvisor Member
Saw the pictures on the hotel website and thought it looked good. Very disappointed. The room was nothing like the photos - it was small, even for Paris. The bedlinen was cheap, unattractive and I don't think it was changed during our four days there. The furniture was basic and very dated whilst the bathroom only had a hand-held shower spray with no wall hook and no shower screen! Breakfast is complimentary, but please note that it is limited to coffee, croissants, cheese and ham. When our flight home was cancelled and we had to spend another day in Paris we moved to the Villa Pantheon, which is in the same street. It was not only much, much nicer but was actually a little bit cheaper. The Hotel Sully is in a great location but from my experience has nothing else to commend it - you can do better.

We loved the Sully St. Germain

from A TripAdvisor Member
My teenage daughter and I stayed at this hotel and loved it. We found the staff very helpful and courteous to two travelers that spoke almost no French. Our room was fresh and charming, with blue satin fabric upholstering the walls. Our french style windows opened onto the street. While the room was small, we were comfortable. The location can't be beat, just a short walk to Notre-Dame and the Seine.

Dumpy Joint in good location

from A TripAdvisor Member
We saw a pretty three star review at Expedia for the Sully St. Germain in the Latin Quarter. The room had a lovely stone wall and the hotel was dexcribed as having a helpful staff and lots of medieval charm. There were some tapestries in the halls, granted, but our room had blackened dirty and stained wallpaper and the chairs were broken ( the leg snapped off of one) and the the upulstery had cigarette holes, and worn threadbare and ripped. When we called the concierge to explain that a leg snapped off one of the chairs ( the other chair rocked back and forth because a piece of wood was missing from the base!) - the "helpfull" staff said "the guests are very hard on the furniture". Returning to the hotel one night about 11 PM, there was no one at the desk and I had to call our repeatedly, after the concierge gave me my key he disappeared again so the guests who arrived shortly afterward were also left calling for help in the lobby. The buffet breakfast was ham and low grade cheese, stale coissant, cereal, muddy coffee - got the picture? The location is fabulous though and I highly recommend this section fo the city for a tourist - but find something better than the Sully and the otehr Sequana hotel sisters along the streee, the Moderne, and California.
