Lovely colonial style hotel - little outside of Kandy town near the lake and tooth temple. Very high ceilings and comfortable rooms - but you need to take the aged windows and bathrooms (all?) with the overall picture. Very friendly staff (as ever) and lovely restaurant setting though we eat in town in the evenings Good breakfast.

Our second day in Kandy and Namal arrives at 09:00am to take us to to the Royal Palace for a viewing (or glimpse as it turns out) of the Buddha's tooth. Kandy was the third capital city from the 15th until the 19th century, when the British colonized Sri Lanka. Today the city houses the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha, which was the …

Another beautiful day, hot like hell as we depart Habanara for Kandy the third capital of Sri Lanka. En route we are scheduled to visit Dambulla and the giant rock temple - more Buddhas - and then on to Matela and Kandy and more curry buffets no doubt.

I am beginning to think there is a reason our driver doesn't come with us to visit these …

... again there is a gym to work off the lion beer and a large pool, which I am sitting by writing this!

Last night got aTuk Tuk into Kandy and went to a place called The Pub, some of you will know, it has had a big restaurant extension put on the back which looks pretty impressive, anyway, a few beers later and back to hotel which is about 5 km from town and about ...

... it has a lot more meaning to them than to us. It matters to me that they can enjoy the festivities without too many tourists flashing their cameras in their faces. It is true that it normally makes amazing pictures though.

Kandy sits at 500 meter above sea level so it pleasant to walk around and luckily for us there is a lake right in the middle of the town to do so. The lake, which is artificial, is home to a few monitor lizards, ducks and birds. We also ...

... took you through the mountain ranges seeing beautiful scenery of tea plantations and waterfalls on the way. A well known tourist trip! It ended up being that all of the first class tickets had sold out, but second class sounded better anyway as you had windows you could open which allowed for better photos, plus, they were cheaper! We were more than happy. We trudged our way back through the busy city ...
