Lovely colonial style hotel - little outside of Kandy town near the lake and tooth temple. Very high ceilings and comfortable rooms - but you need to take the aged windows and bathrooms (all?) with the overall picture. Very friendly staff (as ever) and lovely restaurant setting though we eat in town in the evenings Good breakfast.

... than before and we settled back into the comfy seats. At the various stops local vendors jumped aboard to sell their wares which kept us replenished throughout the 4 hour journey. First came the man selling the yogurts from a local farm which were the sweetest we've ever had. Then the man selling rolls, samosas and other local snacks including a spicy potato croquette which we chose. Next was the nut man with a basket full of warm roasted peanuts mixed with chunks of ...

... in a golden stupa in this temple. Queue up and pass the window where you can view the golden stupa. Apparently it's opened once every 10 years. The place goes mad with pilgrims. It's every Buddhists duty to try to make a pilgrimage to the tooth relic. Of course part of the ceremony is to feed and dress Budah behind closed doors, accompanied by ceremonial drumming. This is serious Disney World, the ceremonies in India were more like amateur dramatic pantomime compared to ...
