Iguazu Falls part 1

... to have come out of the closet - it's dark in there. More power to them. We continued to stroll through the forest just absorbing the magnitude of the falls.

Coming back we decided to take the bus. Little did we know that the bus stopped 2 miles away from our hostel and the next connecting bus wouldn't arrive for over an hour. We started hiking it to our hostel. I thought it may be a good idea to add a hitch to our hike and threw out my ...

... pool table and a tasty breakfast. A very welcome change from Paraguay.

I spent the first day recovering from "that country" by buying some nice bread and cheese in the supermarket and also one of my favourite indulgences on this trip: Coco Pops. Yummy yummy! I lazily wandered around the town, which didn't take long, before finding a comfortable spot by the pool to watch some football. Ah, how I missed civilisation. In the evening, I ...

Foz do Iguaçu (Iguassu Falls)

... do the boat ride īunderī the falls so hadnīt bought any change of clothes with me that day, however I cast this small problem aside with the tiniest amount of encouragement from Fabio who insisted that the Argentinian side is the best side to launch from (Brazil boats miss half the falls because its technically over the border in Argentine waters and so arenīt allowed to cross).

The ride was fantastic and good fun; its probably about 30 people to a jet boat, sitting ...

There were loads of coatis around (racoon type things there are a few photos of) and the announcement on the bus said that they can bite, essepecially when buggered. Though in fairness, she may have said `bothered, hard to tell with the accent...

The tour group seemed to like to move me from one van to another - all in all i was in eight vans / different groups of people in 48 hours. Both trips also had additional folk. Got a tad confusing ...

The dreaded 30th birthday!

Well, I thought that the bus ride would be horrendous, but it was surprisingly comfortable and didnīt feel as long as it was. I was sat in the front row on the top deck, so I got a great view of the scenery (when it was daylight). They played some good movies, luckily in English with Spanish subtitles, so I could even try and learn some more Spanish! The food was also kind of nice, like airplane food, but ...

... We also found that it was a lot hotter than expected at 30C, relegating all the extra layers bought in Buenos Aires to the bottom of the backpack.

We spent the evening wandering around the Brazilian town. As it is just over the border from Argentina, a lot of things are similar (such as the love of Mate) but yet you can really tell you are in Brazil. The food is slightly different, the fashion is a lot more extravagant and the town felt a lot more ...

Water, Water Everywhere!

7/18/2009

I am sitting by the hotel pool enjoying (rewarding myself with) a pisco sour. Those of you who have traveled to South America know it is a kick-ass drink (that will kick it if you don't watch it . . . I’m watching it!). I kept smelling a very subtle egg smell (NOT like sulfer!) and realize that the foam on the pisco sour is from slightly beaten egg whites. Ah, what we won’t drink with our ...
