Day 29 - Srinagar - Jammu - Amritsar

Got ready and packed for 9am. Mentioned to Dr. Qureshi to remind Ashraf that I need to catch my flight.
Ashraf was finally ready after 10am. Luckily I told him the flight was at midday (rather than 12.30). He had to take me to the airport in his own car today as everybody was on strike. He seemed to be OK with me today. I watched him chain smoke about 8 cigarettes on the way to the airport before saying goodbye.
My bags went through 2 security x-rays during checking in plus a ...

Trip to Vaishno Devi

... br> Then a miracle happened, we had Bulbul in our group and she has an army background. She made few calls and in a matter of 4 hours we had 6 VIP passes which is issued only to army. So finally we started our climb at 11:30am with the sun blazing on our head. At 5:30pm we reached the Temple and because we had VIP passes we got direct entry to the temple. After that we climbed another 2km to reach Bharavnath Mandir. At 5200 feets you can not even see the ...

Patni Top...small & beautiful hill station

The first surprise for us one the day from Katra to Srinagar was "Patni Top". This is a small and very veautiful hill station in Udhampur district. It is located in the shiwalik belt of the Himalayas, the River Chenab flows in close proximity to this location. Patan da Talab ,meaning "Pond of the Princess" . The Britishers probably couldnt get the name correctly and over the years it changed from "Patan Da Talab" to "Patni ...

Jammu to Srinagar journey by car...Enjoying Natrue

... sight of ice mountains.
Then there is a big tunnel of aroung 3 km which is the boundry line between Jammu and Srinagar. This tunnel is one way and is the lognest one. Security is provided from both the sides of the tunnel. The tunnel is closed everyday in the evening.

Then there is one more tunnel near to Srinagar "green tunnel". This is with the trees. Big trees from both sides are so close and they appear as if it is a tunnel.

We reached our hotel in Srinagar around 8.30 pm

... is with stairs, shortcut. We walked down almost 6-7 kms but exhausted. So two members decided to go by Pony, Sandeep and laxmi.
Me and Shrikant continues to walk with the shortcut routes. Obviously small breaks were must in between, but we made the journey successful.

We finished the journey by 9.30 pm totally exhausted and unable to walk ahead a single step. Dinner and reaching the hotel was also very difficult.

Bumpety bump to Rewa

... my fair complexion. The owner seemed very confused, as if he'd forgotten what to do, but eventually after a short game of charades, showed me to a bare, but perfectly suitable room (for a boy). It was going to be an early night and a early rise. The next day started as the last had finished, on horribly slow bumpy tracks in the midst of an overhaul, but thankfully they soon turned into the road I'd been dreaming of. A flat racetrack that ...

... shrine. After this visit as planned we also visited the mountain top, Patnitop and Sanasar . We had one and half days in hand , before travelling to Jammu,at Delhi.Hence, we took days trip to Jaipur. While on our return journey ,we travelled to Chandigarh. So in a span of 12 days , out of which six days were in the train as we were travelling from Bangalore, we could cover four destinations. So we guess it was a well planned trip.

Non-veg in Amritsar

Our last day in Rishikesh was a perfect example of doing nothing with style. We found a secluded beach on the banks of the Ganges and read whilst watching the rafters negotiate the rapids opposite. Nary a bush shivered as we watched cormorants fish for fish (we had heard from some English girls that a local man was occupying the nearby vegetation with a purpose that could only be described as self-gratification). Another splendid thali followed at Lucky Restaurant (which at ...
