Pam's Visit: City #2 Thanksgiving!!

... made homemade cranberry sauce which had an amazing zing to it. We had 3, 3.4kg turkies for about 14 people. Bread, stuffing, mashed potatoes, beans, corn, carrots, pickles, squash. Alvira made oreo cakes, Pam, Wendy and I made an apple crisp, Shawn bought a frozen apple pie and Manny brought a fruit salad for dessert with ice cream. Pam and I had to leave at the end to head ...

Pam's Visit: City #2 Day 1

We headed to the Hamburg Hauptbahnhof to get tickets back to Braunshweig. We stopped in Hannover for 1 hour and we quickly walked through some of the shopping section. We were tired when we finally arrived so we hung out in my room for a while just relaxing. We hung out with all of the URI students in Weststadt and it was a lot of fun.

"Wetten, dass?"

... which was around 18,000 people I think but the music wasn’t that great and German’s don’t really know how to just have fun and be silly. Sometimes we felt like we were the only people singing to even the German songs. After the 1,000 people practiced the choreographed dance (a shortened version) about 10 times and 4 hours later they finally filmed the real version for the show. I do not want to hear that song for a long time now! It was pretty fun and crazy ...

Halloween in Germany!!

... It was pretty intense, especially since the crazy Mob-like Braunschweig fans were singing songs the whole time. Then we got ready for the Halloween party at Shunter. It takes forever to get there but eventually we did. The party was slow and not really Halloween-like since all the Germans just put on face paint to look scary and haven’t really gotten into the interesting/funny ...

Nature Walk with Wendy

It was a beautiful day outside so Wendy and I decided to take a walk in the Nature conservatory area on the edge of the city. It took a long time to get there (40 minutes) but we walked around for about 2 hours and saw some beautiful landscape. It was nice to get away from the city and enjoy the Fall colors.

That night there was a volleyball event at the Sports-zentrum. Soth, Steve, Shawn, Drew and I went to just ...

Graduation

Today we graduated from Summer School yaay! We had a mini ceremony where we received our papers saying the hours we completed and our grades. The teachers each gave a small speech but at least it was fairly short. I passed and got 6 credits towards my German major ...

... of a car, from the body shop where they cut out the pieces from the metal from Salzgitter and then mold it using lots of pressure. Then they weld certain pieces together with awesome machines that reminded me of some scary movies but were extremely efficient. Each car runs along a chain track throughout its production. There were a few buildings that were over 2 km long!

After our 2 hour tour ...

Can we handle another day in the car showroom?

... chrome, either way I can't afford one.

We arrived at the tower in plenty of time only to find the low battery warning up on the camera, so careful use was made of the last few milli-amps.
Only one of the towers has been adapted for visitors, who in a glass box with seats are treated to a ride to the top just like one of the cars might be stacked and retrieved. At the top you are allowed out to get a birds eye view of the Stadt and surrounding countryside.

... the facade of the palace with mostly new stones and a few old ones as the front of mall. It looked a bit strange (and is a bit controversial in the city), but it's not often you can say you saw a "new" 500 year old building. Ray has been keeping a travel journal during our trip. The longest daily entry so far has been the day of Nadja and Eike's wedding. So many unique and interesting things happened (and we didn't leave the wedding reception until ...

its like Disneyland but for cars

... new version was only three weeks old when I drove it) complete with a professional driver. I'm terrible with names but my driver had been to Winnipeg recently within the last year with his wife...apparently Winnipeg has too many shoe stores. He did one lap of the track than I did one lap. The Touareg is impressive in off-road conditions but less than 2% are actually used ...
