Day 43: Bolzano, Italy

... I left my bag weights about 20-30 lbs. it weighs a little more right now because of a few things I'm carrying, but its amazing to me how much we value possessions and then how much stuff we really think we need. Even now I feel like I don't need every thing I am carrying, but something's I refuse to discard and suffer carrying the weight around on my back. Anyway my random rambling a of the day while I sit on the train starring out the windows at the raining German ...

Day two Corvara

... Just to add to Finlay's perspective of day two. I did have a test drive and yes I was worried about running over cyclists. changing gears was also challening. The roads are so narrow and so winding it was like playing frogger but dodging MAMILs. After my relaxing drive the girls and I thought it might be safer to catch the bus to our next stop. The restaurant we ate at was built in 1390. After that we got on a bus that went around Innsbruck and stopped at the Tyrol Panorama ...

In the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology, Bolzano there is a rather shrivelled, mangled mummy called Otzi the 5000 year old Iceman, living in 3300 BCE. He is called Otzi because he was found in the Otzal Alps in 1991 by a German (Helmut and Erika Simon) couple out hiking, on the border between Austria and Italy, just a little on the Italian side though. At first they thought he was just a unfortunate ...

... than Italian. Our hotel is right in the middle of the town but has a lovely garden area. As Ron says, the corridor leading to my room is a bit 1960's bordello but the rooms are OK. The hotel's claim to fame is that an Austrian freedom fighter called Andreas Hofer stayed here when visiting Bozen and his room and bed are treasured. Just one night here, needless to say I am not in his room. Bolzano looks very prosperous and in fact ...
