Hauptstrasse Grindelwald, Bernese Oberland, Swiss Alps, Switzerland, 3818, 81-833-6035
... up early and walked to Stechelberg station (1.5 hrs) as the sun finally rose and the clouds started to clear away, and reveal that precious blue. I ascended to Mt Schilthorn (2970m) which took about 30 minutes via three gondolas at Grimewald, Murren and Birg. I got there at about ten o'clock and stayed for about three hours, while having morning tea and a small lunch. Not very good service but you can't beat the view. There are a couple of hiking trails that you can ...
Mürren, Bern, Switzerland tonkin... to catch the bus to Bonigen which was a quaint small town on Lake Brienz. The girl at the hostel had said that it was a 20 minute walk but in true Swiss style, we think that it was probably 40 minutes for any non-Swiss person. Bonigen was so quiet, hardly anybody was about but it was a good opportunity to see different styles of the ...
Interlaken, Swiss Alps, Switzerland kiama_on_tour... had the Swiss speciality icecream). We looked through what was mainly outdoor shops and then caught the train back to Interlaken. We had gone all day thinking that it was Saturday but realised it was Friday when just before we went to bed, I checked the weather forecast for the next day. I also found out that it was going to rain most of the day, so we decided that maybe we should postpone our trip up to Lauterbrunnen.
Interlaken, Swiss Alps, Switzerland kiama_on_tour... for 20 Swiss Francs and then we found a supermarket to buy food. Guess what they had – gloves for 7 Swiss Francs- Tara who is the real economist has given me a hard time since about not getting the best deal.
We had an early night as we were planning to get up early to go to the Jungfrau- providing that the weather was clear- there was a TV screen in the backpackers which showed views from webcams on the Jungfrau and Schilthorn.
... Bill said how elated he was with our surroundings, and I can’t disagree either. We were right up close to the three famous mountains of the region (Jungfrau, Monch, and Eiger), Europe’s highest train station, and the place where 007 movie “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” was filmed. After gradually gaining 1000m in altitude, we found ourselves at the top of a very ...
Lauterbrunnen, Swiss Alps, Switzerland tidolu14... people were hiking...and here we are huffing and puffing away. So far, the weather has been outstanding- about 70's during the day. The lake was beautiful...once we reached it, we sat down and ate a light lunch while enjoying the view. We are looking forward to a nap & a nice fondue dinner tonight with some champagne :-)

Grindelwald, Swiss Alps, Switzerland ritandLast Saturday (July 22) I went hiking with my coworker Josh, and his girlfriend Sonja. The morning was very overcast and the weather predictions for that day threatened our hiking expedition with rain, rain and more rain. Nevertheless, I met Josh and Sonja that morning in front of the Basel train station, still rather groggy from uploading my previous travel logs (this gets to be addictive!). I trusted that my strong Swiss coffee and a gipfli (a.k.a ...
Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland rheingold... little mountain paradise-- Colorado times ten. It really is just incredible. We are serenaded by cow bells that sound like glockenspiels (or however that is spelled) as we walk along paths lined on either side with mountain flowers. It seems as if everywhere you look around, you are overtaken by the amazing mountains, often spouting with waterfalls ...
Grindelwald, Switzerland amsmitty... mocked shock and worry and the horn was lined up so it stretched out in front of him with him standing with his back towards us all. He started blowing and the sound came out was great, almost jazz like at one point I think, that is until the host came out from the kitchen area playing a small bugle type instrument. We were also made to get up on our chares and dance. There was a rainstorm with the host flicking the lights on and off and Edgar running around holding ...
