... of Leopoldskroner. The "konzert" took place high above that however. After dinner, and climbing an indeterminable number of stairs to the top of the fortress we were treated to a gorgeous setting for the most incredible chamber music and sunset over Salzburg. What a night. Note regarding GPS and Wifi: In June, our district gave us an info sheet via email about using Airplane mode and Wifi when travelling to avoid hidden charges. It has worked like a charm. I discovered ...

Reminded me of when I was in Bangkok a number of years ago, and was also staying at a much more lowly hotel accommodation, and found it a must to eat at the Oriental Hotel now and then! ... The fortress was well worth a visit, if only for the spectacular views afforded by its lofty porch on the hillside above Salzburg. At 11 euro for the funicular up and down and a visit to the fortress including an audio tour I thought it was great value.
Wending our way back through old Salzburg - there is an old and new town and the old town is a Unesco world heritage site - we had to ask how to find Nonnberg Abbey. ...

... and go - there are 36 platforms! Gary even found a great model train shop. In the afternoon we caught the slow train to Salzburg (at €25 each not worth wasting a day on our Eurail) which took 2 hours through spectacularly green countryside, mountains shrouded in mist and gorgeous alpine villages. Our hotel room at the Ramada in Salzburg is nice with a view of the train station from the window -Gary is in ...
