... next to a river with old wooden houses around us and icicles lining the wall at the side of the road. Above us, going over the valley was the autobahn, stretching into the distance and missing all the beautiful nature we were seeing.

The drive went well and the weather was perfect, no crazy snow storms this time, in fact there is no snow in Lienz at all. We made it to Lienz and on the drive into town passed some archaeological ruins which ...

... I finally found the Best
Western and so booked in there.
My wonderful Honda was parked up in the garage and I had a room on the top
      floor overlooking the square below.
Bike unloaded and out of my bike gear I head off to explore this Austrian
      town.
The town sure is well kept as is almost all Austrian towns and is full of

plenty of bars. This being Friday the bars were full and the ...

      ... I came up yesterday.

After taking the fork the road down this section heads down into a massive deep valley and gently drops as it hugs the edge of the mountain.

After about 5 or so miles the valley becomes narrow and the road starts twisting its way down a magical pass in all directions. Some of the pass has been reconstructed over the years and various sections of old road can be seen as I descend.

The old road is even more twisty than the new and ...

... So up we went anyway. I had a few good photos and the walk we did was great.

Then the next day we visited the most touristic place in the area called "Tre Cime" this rock formation is 3 huge pipes sticking vertically up almost scratching the sky. One can walk around them there are "refugio" houses where one can get a place to overnight and get warm food and so. However this morning was ans well cloudy and our walk was not starting with the best views. On can park the car at ...

      Back to Austria?

A travel blog entry by rolandandlinda on Sep 18, 2014

Time to leave Valle Verde. Decided to give Austria
another try as we are hearing that the weather has improved. However, with low
cloud this morning, there is little point in going over the high Dolomite
      passes.

Decided to go north through Moena and then west over a lower
pass to Bolzano. As expected, the low cloud made for little viewing of the
      mountain peaks.

Went north to Bressanone but stayed on a ...
