The Tatra Mountains are the natural border between Poland and Slovakia, and there has always been this question of which part is more beautiful. The secret is as follows: they are too different to compare. The Polish part is full of people, noise, activities, shops and festivals. The Slovakian part is quiet, peaceful and almost virgin-like, despite its well-developed infrastructure. It's simply because it's much ...
Tatranska Lomnica, Presov, Slovakia translucent... our room, came back with a bottle of yellow vodka and were generous enough to share it around with everyone - claiming it's therapeutic benefits.. (It contained some sort of herb that made it yellow and it actually tasted quite sweet!)
My final morning in Zakopane I returned to the cable car at 7:45am (it opens at 7am) with the two Australian girll, feeling sleepy sut smug that we ...
... unless you want to be closed in one of the chambers - in this case you'll have to wait until the next group sets you free.
I end my visit in the Oravsky Podzamok getting trapped behind the entrance gate to the castle and I spend 15 minutes in a pouring rain until a tour guide opens the gate to let in the next group of tourists. I buy some postcard and a pint of beer with raspberry juice, and I go back home.
skiing....better than sex....the most fun id had in a very, very long time...
the beer was cheap,. the meat platters were like something out of alice and wonderland...and i was proper pro by the end of our 3 week stay in zakopania...look at the videos
... plan was to have checked into that Hostel, hiked for the day, maybe ride the lift, and some pictures. I had left my camera, on a chair beside my bed, as first thing in this morning I had intended loading some pictures onto the travellog and starting this entry. Well someone else, had different plans. Someone, stol;e the camera, case and chip, with some 600 pictures. There were four people including me in the room, you needed your key ...
Zakopane, Poland skip2938... a couple of beers at a great bar called "Roosters". Great because of the beer, location and sun, nothing to do with all the waitresses being in hotpants. The next day was very wet as we set off to Slovakia. Unfortunately the windscreen wipers packed up not long after leaving (they're now permanently stuck in the 'up' position) so the lack of visibility meant we couldn't see much of the scenery. (some might say it would be more useful to try and look at the road really ...
Stary Smokevec, Slovakia mark_and_claireA nice short drive today, only about 100km from Krakow to Zakopane, on the Poland-Slovakia border, at the base of the Tatra mountains. It was great to see the Tatras rising up from the plains as we approached, with the jagged peaks looking very impressive. This was definitely the prettiest place we had been to so far. We had come to Zakopane to do some hiking, so after settling into our campsite and having some lunch, we got the minibus into town ...
Zakopane, Poland andrewmarnie... was to discover how to get from Zakopane to Eger in Hungary. The guide book (let's go eastern Europe) did not explain how. By the way we regret no buying Lonely Planet or Rough Guides, Let's Go was below critic... Finally we discover that we had to take a bus to Poprad in Slovak Rep. Than a train to Fuzesabony and finally another train to Eger... Let's see if it will work. The videos in this post are related to earier stops in our trip
Zakopane, Poland alhadeff... Camping is by far the cheapest option in a resort that is hight season in the summer because of fantastic hiking and high season in the winter because its a ski resort. We stayed at Eurocon, sorry... Eurocamp, a place with high prices and lots of faciltities that were all closed. And the Slovakian Caravan club were staying there too, complete with satellite dishes and huge mobile homes that only slightly overshadowed our 2-man tent. But ...
Tatranska Lomnica, Slovakia dazbo1975... to a safe journey. After we left here we went to WAWEL which is a castle where many of Polands Kings are burried. Usually you have to pay to enter but we didnt have to for some reason. We took alot of pictures in here as well as the rest of Krakow. For lunch we had some good old fashion Polish cooking. For dessert we had something called GORFY. Poles have a major sweet tooth so there is tonnes of dessert places to eat and they love ice cream. GOFRY is pretty much a waffle with ...
