... clear a bit and afford us some sort of view at the summit. Being early in the season the first boat cruise is not until 9:45am, so we get to have a bit of a sleep in. On arrival at the tourist office to buy the tickets we are informed that both the cog wheel and the cable car are not running this morning due to snow and ice on the tracks. We are told to come back in an hour and see if they have opened. Damn. We spent an hour walking around, looking in a couple of the only shops ...

We pulled up to an unassuming one-story wooden structure which was the departure depot for the 100-year-old funicular, a small three car passenger train, that took us about 1,200 feet up the mountain to the middle station at Kälti where we ...

... I took one look out and my stomach dropped. It was so unbelievably high. I think the worst part was when we we only a couple of metres from hopping out, it went incredibly slow. I just wanted to get out and enjoy the view from standing on the ground. We got up to the 360 degree platform and the view was amazing. On one side you could see all out over Lucerne and the other was the Swiss Alps, with snow and all. We were so lucky to have such a clear view as the weather ...
