With lunch over I headed onwards up this wonderful pass. It was a fantastic
road and I just loved it but it had one massive unexpected problem!! On leaving
the restaurant my satnav said I would arrive at my destination of Tarvisio at
13h13 which was great as that meant I could continue on to the town of Lienz in
Austria and stay there the night, however this was simply not going to
... English, had a bus timetable with him and advised us to stay on the train until Klagenfurt, three stops away. We could then board the bus for Venice from there. We would only be 11/2 hrs late. That sounded like a plan. I mean we had always wanted to go to Klagenfurt ........a relation perhaps to Frankfurt?? Not sure! Anyway, this kind young man even gave us plan B......if the bus at Klagenfurt was booked out, there was a train at 4.30pm for Venice. So there we ...
Dam just a short run from base and we passed some amazing waterfalls and arrived with not another person around - not a bad thing to be alone when you are stood on a glass platform at 200m. Back into Gmund for a look around the Porche Museum and town, quick bite to eat with a rather indulgent Iced Coffee.
Attempted the 35 km long Nochalmstrasse but the Austrian rain
had other ideas and mother nature sneaked in a rather chilly 2 Deg and at 2042 m high that is cold so back to Hochalmspitze for a chill.
Vernon's Goulash for tea made up for the day !
Grossglockner High Alpine Road - AKA Big Bell ! Smooth open road, hairpins,
climbs and sweepers = happy. At the top the views are mainly CLOUD but
grab a Hot Chocolate and see how things develop, quick chat and then we
are off down the other side with a quick turnaround back up and over to
the other side to see ...
