The Big Easy

As we left before we had quite the adventure in the Bayou. We went to Airboat Adventures and took a 2 hour Airboat tour throughout the Bayou of Louisiana. As we parked the car some guy came up to us and told us to get our tickets and grab some beer in the county store....very interesting because he had quite the resemblance to Quasimodo, but what can you expect when you get down to the Bayou. Our tour guide was a 17 year old kid with no fear for losing his fingers. It only took about 5 minute...

Friday evening we checked into our room at the Hotel St. Marie on Toulouse Street in New Orleans. Sarah had called the hotel about a month ago to arrange for a bottle of champagne to be waiting for us, so we relaxed after the car ride before meandering down to Coop's Place for dinner. Both of us loved the food and the atomosphere.
Saturday morning we slept in and then went to Cafe Du Monde for yummy beignets and cafe au laits. It was so much fun to watch the city from the cafe while we pre...

Heading down South

THE PLAN Staying at: Hotel St Marie, New Orleans No plans except to discover the city and eat some Southern food. THE REALITY

Another day down South

THE PLAN Staying at: Hotel St Marie, New Orleans Might go into the swamps... depends if we can get a babysitter. Hire a car... THE REALITY We wake at 9am - fortunately all the time zone changes mean that George is sleeping a bit later. David and George head downstairs to breakfast (Michelle is a bit poorly) where we have a rather unappetising croissant and cinnamon pastry. Even George doesn't fancy them. David and George head out of the hotel for a walk and on leaving the hotel they have walk...

Last day in New Orleans

THE PLAN Staying at: Hotel St Marie, New Orleans Another day of relaxing in bars in New Orleans. THE REALITY Another late breakfast ad hwe hit the rather disappointing town museumm (at least it was free). They had an exhibit on food which was mildly interesting although David remains disappointed that the food is a long way short of what he was looking forward to. We go to the Jazz Brunch at the Court of Two Sisters. Very enjoyable and good food although served by a rather incompetent waiter ...

STAY AWAY!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel was horrific!! As we checked in we were greeted by Gary, the world's rudest desk clerk! He had attitude with everyone, even if they were simply asking a question. We requested a non-smoking, garden view room with a balcony. We were given a smoking room with a view of another building's roof and no balcony. The room was dirty, the lamp was broken, you could not call out on the phone, and their was a gigantic mold spot on the ceiling in the bathroom. Needless to say the only good thing about the hotel was that after speaking with the General Manager we were allowed to checkout without being charged a dime. We then checked into the Sheraton and had a wonderful stay in New Orleans! Take my advice, stay at the Sheraton or The W.

Loved it

I stayed at the Hotel St. Marie last year. The staff was very efficient. If there were any questions regarding cable, hairdryers, etc., we had wonderful service. It is a charming, beautifully decorated, and formal staff. I would stay there again, except each time I go, I like to stay at a different hotel. It is part of the New Orleans experience.

Great Staff

This hotel was so cozy with a great staff, minor drip problem from the air unit but other than that it was a great stay for the fourth of July weekend

I loved this place!

I was very nervous about finding a decent hotel in New Orleans since we were on a budget. After reading all the comments on this website about different hotels, I was even more nervous! I ended up choosing the Hotel St. Marie because it was only $59 per night and they also had a free parking deal going on (savings of $20!). The hotel is about 1/2 a block from Bourbon Street and the area was pretty quiet. I had no problems with valet parking. The staff was nice and I had no problems with my reservations either. I loved the little courtyard, it was cute and cozy. In the evenings the hotel resturant puts little tables out there with candles, white table cloths, etc. Very romantic! The swimming pool was average size, but who cares... you are in New Orleans! The rooms were cozy and those 'strange red lights' in the bathroom they were talking about in one review were heat lights for when you get out of the shower. The hotel was pretty quiet, but we were there during the week and the walls are kinda thin, so I can see how it might become loud if the hotel were full. There is a little convienience store right next to the hotel if you forget to pack something. This hotel has a great location! I will definately stay here again.

Great Location, But WATCH THE RATE

from trixink
As with all this groups properties (St. Marie, Prince Conti and Place d'Armes) and others in New Orleans...BEAWARE that the prices/rates can change on a random basis, particularly during events!

Example - Mardi Gras Room Rate at St. Marie (reservation made 8 months in advance) was around $270 per night (full payment due around two months prior to event, non-refundable)....

Price checked one week prior to event via hotel website (Prince Conti) was $170.

Request from management to address this rate discreprency went without reply.

Amenities during some events are minimal for the price being paid...which is purely for location and little else.

A Nice Suprise

from A TripAdvisor Member
Absolutely Great! I used trip advisor before I reserved the room, and now I am returning to say just how right these individuals were when they posted comments about this hotel. It's CLEAN, CLOSE to everything, and the SERVICE could not have been any better, which is a rarity in the French Quarter. However, there is a $20.00 a day fee for parking. And trust me, you will not want to do ANY driving in the French Quarter. It's way to congested. Bring comfy shoes and enjoy your stay!

Charming hotel

A charming hotel. I read some negative reviews prior to going there and was concerned, but my experience was very positive.

Wonderful stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have no complaints about this hotel! I thought the location was perfect, the staff was courteous, and the rooms were well kept and spacious. Only half a block from Bourbon St., made it ideal for those who wanted to stay near all the excitement. I would definitly stay here again!

Wonderful experience

We stayed at the St. Marie on short notice when I could find nothing else. We were in a ground floor suite with a kitchen. What a break for us. I oved the location and the staff was excellent as were the prices. I would highly recommend these accomodations which are only a few steps off Bourbon St.

Southern hospitality

from A TripAdvisor Member
Simply put, Hotel St. Marie offers true southern hospitality. I've stayed at many different hotels in the quarter and the St. Marie offers a great value for the price. The staff was always courteous and friendly. Rooms were clean, well proportioned and surprisingly quiet considering the location. The only down side was the painfully slow elevator. But as one local once said to me... "Why'd y'all come to New Orleans if you was in a hurry?"
