Today was my last full day in Andorra. There wasn't a huge amount to do. It wasn't snowing, but the wind was so fierce that it seemed like a sand storm made out of snow. I had a great time watching a group of cows grazing in snow up to their stomachs. Other than that I had a walk around town and spent about an hour at a ...
Canillo, Andorra sirsmonkey42
After a long night on a surprisingly jam packed night train, I arrived at a train station about 1km from the Andorra border. I was slightly worried about my transportation from the train station at l'Hospitalet to my destination 26km into Andorra. The cryptic information information I was able to find on the web about buses told me that there were 2 per day, one leaving at 7:30am and the other 7:30pm. This was a bit disconcerting as my train arrived ...

What it does mean, we're not quite sure of yet. Still dealing with the shock and going over a few different options. All while kicking myself for not realizing this sooner. Only one thing is for certain - I'm not going to let this spoil our trip, and we're going to have to get cycling! (o.k., two things).
Boussenac, Midi-Pyrénées, France 2totango... sorts. The fact that walnuts fall from the sky is remarkable! I thought that chestnuts were simply for pig food, but after some reading I‘ve made a spreadable puree, roasted them with squash, and made a lentil/chestnut soup. Not the nicest to work with as they are extreemly finicky and hard to peel, but the novelty hasn’t quite warn off yet and I’m still enjoying experimenting with them.

Of course, we had to do the ...
Boussenac, Midi-Pyrénées, France 2totango... by us on cast away sausage meat revealed how skilled he really was. Spare rib roasts, rolled belly, chump steaks, rack of ribs, pork chops, and hams were all neatly packaged and labeled. Bones went into the stock pile, fat went into the rendering pile, and other bits went into the sausage pile.

After all the good cuts were stored away in the freezer it came time to process the rest of it. Brian started up the meat ...
Boussenac, Midi-Pyrénées, France 2totangoTime to attempt something I’ve always been itching to do: rock climbing. And not the kind done on indoor walls with padded flooring. Real out-in-the-open, unforgiving stone ROCK CLIMBING!

Out in the Pyrenees in the Ariege region with it’s beautiful slopes lie a multitude of rock faces covered in climbers pretending to be Spiderman.

Even though it’s something I’ve always wanted to try, there were a few ...
Tarascon-sur-Ariège, Midi-Pyrénées, France 2totangoA side trip with the truck enabled us to get to areas we couldn’t normally access. Not that we would even attempt it on bicycles - vehicles are bad enough. Windy roads where motion sickness is a given, ‘oh ****’ handles are coming loose from repetitive strain, and a straight section of road lasts about 20m.

Our goal was a little damned in lake almost on the ...
Marc, Midi-Pyrénées, France 2totangoThe set up for working at Las Laous is a 2 day on, 1 day off system. This works great because it means that we have a full day to go and do things and we aren’t really restricted for time. Also, the fact that Justin and Emily have lent us a car makes it even better! We can go farther that we could on foot or bike.

One of the main things we were interested in seeing was the Grotte de Naiux (Caves). Part of the fun of spending time in the ...
Niaux, Midi-Pyrénées, France 2totango... we finally found Camping du Chateau, in Varilhes. This is on the main street through the town, on the west side. It's a nice tidy site and the facilities are spotless. We didn't have electricity and it cost about €12. (You can see I'm losing track of the details now). Definitely one we'd use again. It's definitely a lot cooler than the Med., and too cool for June, but it is at least dry, and the wind has dropped. Bonsoir, mes p'tits!
