Historical Traveler Reviews of Hotel Splendid Interlaken
Truely run by family, great location, great city
from jenniferindublin
This hotel was one of the highlights of our trip to Interlaken. The location is great, rooms clean and comfortable and the family that runs it is wonderful. We missed breakfast(which is great by the way) by more than an hour as we slept in. The owner actually called our room to say they were keeping the kitchen open for us. If you are visiting the area for the first time and are planning a ski trip, please feel free to contact me and I'm happy to give all the little tips (good skiing, public transportation, etc)
We didn't find it noisy at all, but perhaps this is only a problem in the summer when windows must be kept open?

Nice staff

The staff of the hotel were cheerful and helpful. The bar was always crowd and full of fun. The room was unexpectedly nice and the view was very good (as you can see the attached picture). The drawback was that the public areas of the hotel might need renovation.
Not represented accurately on websites

The Hotel Splendid is indeed, NOT splendid. We found the hotel misrepresents itself with promises of 1) spa facilities... those are several blocks away at a public facility and for extra cost. 2) photos of rooms... WHERE are those rooms? ours was as blank as a white canvas, no friendly feel, not personal or warm in any way. Also the tiniest shower I have ever used. 3) the noise from the street (namely, their own smoky overcrowded bar) is indeed unbearable. Our entire family lost sleep both nights we stayed there.
In addition: I booked months in advance having read the revues on this and other websites and was very disappointed. Other hotels have been well represented and offered surprise pleasures as well, but this is one I will never recommend.
Not so splendid
from tweetyhollo
The Splendid is a splendid Hotel if you don't mind noise. We found the noise on the front of the hotel unbearable. It was hot weather so we had to have the windows open and people were outside at the pub until midnight. We requested to be moved to a room on the back and were accomodated. We lost any kind of a view but at least it was quiet enough to go to sleep.
Splendid is an understatement

We selected the Hotel Splendid afetr reading the TripAdvisor reviews on Interlaken hotels and we were not dispapointed. This is a family run hotel where the management take a personal interest in making sure everything is up to standard. Kathy the owner seemed to be everywhere at all times to make sure their guests are happy. The food is excellent which is probably why the hotel's restaurant is regularly used by local residents. Make sure you visit the in-house "Buddy's Pub", an authentic British pub with Rosie, its own British barmaid. Although this hotel is only rated 3 star it certainly outperforms its rating and in terms of service it is FIVE STAR. This is probably why several guests who were there at the same time as us were regular patrons of the hotel. If we return to Interlaken we shall certainly stay at the splendid Splendid.
Favorite Stay on my Swiss trip...

Oustanding Quality, Timeliness, and Customer Service! Just about a 7 minute walk from the train station, GREAT breakfast buffet (included), and just overall the best family-run hotel in Interlaken. Made great friends with the Hassensteins and promised them a return in the summer.
Nice place -- friendly, helpful staff

The Hotel Splendid was one of our favorite stays while touring Italy and Switzerland. The rooms are decent-sized, clean, homey and ours had a nice view. The breakfast was DEFINITELY the best we had in three weeks of traveling -- meat, eggs to cook anyway you like, breads, jams, unwatered down juices, etc.
Moreover, the staff was very friendly and helpful -- one young man and one young lady in particular.
The location is also excellent -- right on the main street and a few short blocks to the Interlaken West Train Station. If you drive a car, there is free parking at a lot up the street -- another nice bonus. One more thing -- the on-premise restaurant is also excellent. Good food and friendly service at reasonable (by Swiss standards) prices.
And, finally, we booked online through an agency, and when we checked out of our room there were no glitches whatsoever regarding the pricing of the stay.
Our Best Stay in Europe!
from travelqueens
This was by far one of the best places we stayed at on our 3 week tour of Europe! It is located in the central part of town in beautiful Interlaken. The hotel has a nice homely feel to it and the rooms are quite spacious and clean. The bathroom is a bit small, but it's clean and you certainly will not give it much thought considering you are probably in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Breakfast was included in our stay and was one of the best included breakfasts we had! Try their homemade jams, they're a delight. The concierge was also very friendly and the hotel was right across the street from a nice multi-cultural cuisine restaurant with a view of the Alps. I recommend this hotel to everyone looking for quality within a budget. (~$200 USD per night)

Excellent family run hotel with good food. Clean and tidy with good bedrooms. Ideal central position. Friendly bar.
Cannot fault it going back for the 3rd time.
