Uruguay, and BUENO!!! Aires!!!

Guys!!!! So I´m now in the amazing cosmopolitan city of Buenos Aires, Happy days all round! We have now left Uruguay which im gonna fill you in on first...... So we arrived accross the border in Uruguay about 5 Days ago, we were unceromoniously dumped in the middle of nowhere at what felt like -5 temperatures, at 5 in the morning to have to argue with the bus driver to get my bag as he was trying to keep it, a small coffuffle ensued where i determidly dragged my own bag off the bus with him h...

Arrived in Buenos Aires, Argentina

Arrived in Buenos Aires at 10:15am where the temp was 57 degrees. Soon after landing, I discovered that one of my two bags didn't make it the distance but no worries! What would life be like without the occasional challenge to measure our ability to deal with the unexpected? Took a brief taxi ride to the Splendid Hostel, checked in and headed out the door on a search mission to locate was was described by the flight attendant on my flight as the Recolleta. An open market in the city center wh...

Sunday markets & street life

First day in BA & already in love with it (slight danger I may never come home). This is the last day of my tour so staying in a rather dreary but well located hotel in the centre (to be rectified tomorrow). Spent the afternoon mooching around the markets in the southern neighborhoods & soaking up the fabulous atmosphere ..... La Boca, apparently the roughest neighborhood, if you are foolish enough to step outside the touristy areas. This is best known for 2 things: - First the La Bom...

La Boca!!

Yesterday was do nothing day, It was a day off as opposed to a work day for me. I was in pain from lack of sleep and a serious over dose of sugar. BA breakfasts are deserts, caramel sauce, chocolate cake and every sugary Danish you can think. I tried them all in the early hours when I came in from Opera bay. Moved from Hotel Splendid (my a*rse) to the more plush Hotel Waldorf. Said my bye byes to the group. Sarah arrived today. Yipee!. She was barely landed and I dragged her off out. The day ...

BA Tango

A perfec way to finish the two week Patagonian tour. An unforgettable evening with a full on hour of Tango lesson beforehand climaxing in El Watson and very able partner voted top Tango Two...!! Unlimited vino tinto, quality and hilarious crooning, six tangoists who definitely put their dancing shoes on, the sexy little swines..!! and Thomas the Dane taking pepper notoriety for his 30th.!

Paris in South America

Make no mistake about it - when people claim that Buenos Aires is the Paris of South America, they are not lying. Buenos Aires is a grand city. It´s gorgeous architecture, charming cafes, theaters and museums are on par with Paris, London or New York. I spent 3 full days walking and walking throughout the amazing city. I got to do about half of the things I had wanted. This is truly a city worth an entire week of your time.

In Search of Iguassu

Arrived in central Buenos Aires to meet up with our new travelling companions for our GAP tour to Rio - the combination of our improving Spanish and exceptionally helpful locals meant that our 'Subte' metro journey from the bus station to the hotel was easy. Went for the easy option for food though... our first McDonalds of the whole trip! Got plenty of exercise in the hotel using the stairs to our 5th floor room as the lift seemed to have a mind of it's own! Our tour leader Dario took us to ...

Argentina (Part 1) - I just ate me a cow!

... we are going to the same place each time!

Stray dogs follow you like the littlest hobbo. These dogs are the most beautiful placid dogs I have ever come across in my life!! When we first arrived to the German town we seemed to adopted a dog Phil named “El Salvador” who spent the whole afternoon with us just for companionship. He followed us to the park and just sat there, sat outside a restaurant waiting for us and then left us off at the ...

Delightfully Overwhelmed

... means that my spanish will improve by leaps and bounds.     In terms of my social life, I am definitely trying not to live the Argentinian way, which for me would be an almost impossibility. In Argentina, it is a social faux pas to go out before 1am and definitely a social faux pas to leave before 4am. Most people go out around 2-3am and stay out until 7ish in the morning. For me, this is terribly difficult because I thoroughly enjoy my sleep and most times would rather stay in ...

Nothing beats a good wake-up bang

... days ago, everybody had forgotten about it. But ... most people decided to still do the dinner instead, though a few decided to stick with the tango show, since they had already agreed to go. When this happened, Danie and Rachel expressed interest, so I gave them two of the vacated spots. When hearing of the dinner, Martin decided to change the night of the tango show, so then R&D were able to come, but I didn't have enough ...
